Cost of Welding Axle Tubes

I am wanting to know what I should look to pay to get my axle tubes welded, as I am by no means a welder, nor have I had to have anything welded.

Also, should I look at going to going to a rear-end specialist or what?

I would guess a few hundred if you remove the axle and take it to a shop who knows how to weld axles, It needs to be done in stages to ensure the axle stays straight and the weld holds.

I just paid 570 for gear install,weld axle tubes,install lca relo brackets and weld in,install of lca. HTH

This really depends on alot of things, get a quote, I would think 1-2 hours labor, labor rates vary alot.

No real negatives, welded on vice pressed on to the dif.

Zero negatives, I paid my guy $50.

There are plenty of negatives to not having it done though. My buddy with a 2011 GT/CS with a FRPP Whipple 2.3 was cutting 1.6's all night and he twisted one of his tubes. Had to replace the rear end.

Too many variables, some shops will want to remove ring and pinion in order to use a bar to ensure the tubes stay straight. Others will weld it with it together.

any differences whether or not it is welded together vs apart?

assuming apart is better, but would still like to know differences

What differences? Both ways they get welded, one way will cost more for a little more peace of mind that they are straight.

You could also just buy the CHE Axle Brace as well.

Food for thought, I am planting 750rwhp down on a 28x12.50-15 MT ET Street, cutting 1.5 (hopefully faster soon) 60's. I just did the el cheapo axle tube weld method, and so far, so good.

You could also just buy the CHE Axle Brace as well.

Looks like it makes sense...I saw that one came with an axle girdle, is the axle girdle something I should get too?

Also what about a panhard bar? If so, adjustable or static?

Adjustable, even from the factory the rear end is slightly off center. Even more so after lowering.

I cant tell you what the cost was for just welding the tubes as I had a lot of stuff done to the rear end and the invoice was not fully itemized. I cant see no more than $50 to $100 just for welding. If you plan on gears, a new differential, and welding the tubes it makes sense to have everything done at one time. Speaking with a welder by profession who runs around with us, he stated you dont need to put the axle in a jig to weld. Mine wasnt done in a jig, nor were some of the others I asked about. An axle girdle will help and make sure you purchase one that has bearing cap support. Here is a recent thread on this topic:
