This is my first post, so....Hello.

My buddy has a 04 GTO that he has the 350 ls1 motor in it, automatic. He just had a 12.80 sec 1/4 mile pass with a computer retune for both the engine and transmission, slicks, and gutted cats.

What do I need to do to get there or even close with my completely stock 06 GT Automatic?

Is it even possible with some bolt on parts and a re-tune?

Thanks...Kevin

Thanks, that was fast.

What gear set? Can I do it with better exhaust, but stock exhaust manifolds?
Who's tune? Custom or handheld? Is a HPTuner a good choice?

Mods in my sig with stock gears yielded me mid 12's. First mod you should do is intake with a tune. Then get yourself some drag radials for the track. Few bolt ons and drag radials easy 12's!

Welcome to the Forum!!

I mostly agree with stkjock, but I would do a converter before I'd add headers. I would suggest 4.10 gears, too. If I was starting all over with a stock auto car, my first mods for drag racing would be:

CAI/Tune
275/40-17 M/T Drag Radials
4.10s
3500rpm Converter

I'm with Don on this one! You might want to consider a bamachips tune as well. www.bamachips.com

BTW, welcome!!

Tell me what you think if...

1. 3:73 gears (I still want to drive it long distance)
2. 3-3500 stall converter (PI)
3. Off road x-pipe and axle back frpp stingers
4. CAI
5. Somebody's tune (Prefer a custom based on above)

Slicks are a no-brainer, maybe the ones that I use with my 69 Mach1 will work...

Thanks....Kevin

Wow did you actually type that? I can't believe it...

Because the extra weight (& $$) of a vert will hinder your goal. Then get below 13.5 and you have to spend "go-faster" money on little things like rollbars (unless your name is stkjock and you're a CHEATER). Personally, I still prefer the vert but the O/P was more concerned with catching his friend.

I have been chasing 2k05gt for 2 years. It's fruitless.

Set goals for sure, but in the end, the race is only with yourself. There is always someone faster.

LMAO AT NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!!! :clap::clap::clap:

Seriously,I 'think' I've decided that I'm keeping my vert N/A now just for the reason that it's not a coupe! It's more time, money, and heavier than those Krispy Kreme doughnut girls you posted a while back. So, your list is almost perfect, it should be...

1. Automatic Coupe
2. Bamachips Intake/Tune
3. Power Steering Bypass Belt
4. Gears
5. Torque Converter
6. Tires
