I am going to relocate the OEM receiver further back, but that's cake; and if you weld up your own it would be part of the design from the start.

Best,
-j

That's the thing. I'm looking for a fairly straight forward bolt-in affair. I can cut, bend, grind, etc. Welding/fabricating is where I'm green.

Great thread.

So, who has the best price for the Cobra Suzuka Pro seats? I'm looking to buy a set.

Jason @ Vorshlag (modernbeat) put some prices up a few posts back but give us a ring if you want to know more.

http://subesports.com/products/cat/Seats/brand/Cobra

We have several Cobra Suzuka (top left) and Imola (top right) seats in stock. We're doing installs on a Sebring-Pro and an Evolution-Pro next week as well, so those are here if someone wants to take a look.

Somehow I missed the pricing. Will go back and look for it. Since my wife just gave me a blank check (so to speak) for a set of seats. And Since she rides with me quite a bit on cruises and such they need to have some comfort. The Suzuka pro appears to fit that criteria. Since I don't have the option of going to a shop to look at these (I'm not aware of any such shops close to me) nor do I know anyone who has a set I'm looking for info from you guys.

The Suzuka is comfortable to drive/ride in, but the high "step over" sides can be a hassle to get over when entering and exiting the car. The Imola is virtually the same seat, but without the high leg bolsters. So for a dual use street/autox or street/track car, with a lot of in and outs that happen with daily driving... you might look at the Imola. It costs a little less, too, but still holds you in very very well.

We had a couple of S197forum regulars comes by and sit in our Mustang seats at the NOLA race 2 weeks ago, so maybe they can chime in with their thoughts?

I gotta start keeping up with these races/events that are that close to me so I can meet some of you guys. Been looking for an excuse to go down to NOLA, but time...well that's another issue all together. I would love to be able to compare the 2 seats (Suzuka vs Imola) but as I said I don't have that option really. At least not easily. I don't daily drive my car at all. It is strictly for my/our recreation. But my wife is rather short so maybe the Imola is the way to go. Comfort level about the same I would guess? I just like the look of the Suzuka and I'm really looking for the functionality at least for the driver seat.

Choices choices choices!

That exact seat is $799. Sliders are $79.95 and FIA approved aluminum side mounts are $149.

We make our own brackets to mount them into the car, as you've seen in our gallery. And, there are cheaper and more expensive seats. That Suzuka Pro is the one we decided on for the red S197.

Yeah I don't need anything FIA approved, but it's always a plus when the seat is - just for peace of mind. I'm probably in the market for something a bit cheaper, but I'll shoot you guys a call or an email when I'm ready for seats. I should probably get at least a four point bar first to mount a harness on properly though.

Yeah I may have to do something a little different. $2229 for a pair if Cobra Imola's, shipped! Now mind you that is with brackets and sliders. But I may have to look at some corbeaus or something. That's just too rich for be right now.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Me! I'm not a regular poster...more of a lurker. Got to get on that.

Anyway- I'm a big guy and about 5'10". The Suzuka GT was just about perfect, and as soon as I can get Terry to sell me some brakes and as soon as I can get down to Dallas I'm going to have a couple put in.

I don't DD my car. IMO, the stepover involved with the Suzuka would be a deal breaker for a DD. Bear in mind, "nimble" is not the first adjective that comes to mind when describing my motions. Too awkward of a "get in" position, and I don't even wear skirts and stuff. Your wife would not be happy.

Terry this is Mark by the way.

Corbeau FX1 Pro seat here. Not the highest quality, but decent for the price. You know what they say: "You get what you pay for"....

Well I went with the corbeau cr1's. Haven't raced with them yet so I don't know how well I will like them. But just driving I like them. Of course I didn't know I could order them with the fifth belt slot, so now I have to install that myself. Corbeau was nice enough to sell me the grommets.

Mark came by Vorshlag today and sat in an Imola Pro-Fit GT... and then a Corbeau seat mounted in another car. I will let him reply.

And yes, the step-over in the Suzuka (above left) is a hassle, but the Imola (above right) is the same seat with just a much lower step-over. Not as much leg support, but much more liveable in a daily driven car.

If money were no object I would be all over those Imolas, but I just don't see dropping almost $2k By the time you get brackets and such for seats in a mostly street car. I'm sure they are much better than the Corbeau Forza and is fia certified ... But at 2-3x the cost it's a hard pill to swallow.

The Corbeau Forza is a steel framed seat. I have a hard time ponying up anything for that style seat if the intended use is on the track. I've had issues with steel frame seats breaking and the cardboard and wood panels in them coming loose.

Almost every manufacturer makes a steel framed seat. Even Cobra has one that's FIA certified. They are aimed at entry level motorsports or street use and are usually built with lower end coverings and less contours in both the frame and the padding. They are also almost always restricted to bottom mounts which limit the way they can be fit into some cars, particularly where headroom is a concern.

Once you try a few different seats and see the real benefits between them, the fitments into different cars, the comfort (which prevents driver fatigue) and the longevity of the materials, it's a lot easier to justify the 2-3 times the cost.

I understand, and I'm not debating that the higher end seats are worth the $$$$. What I'm saying is that $2,000 worth of seats/brackets/etc will never be in my budget (and many peoples' budgets) for the foreseeable future - so it's either stick with the stock seats that are really bad, or get what I can.

The issue that I'm running into is there are not many seats (if any) that are affordable, decent on the track, and usable on the street for a dual purpose car.

The solution to save 50% on high end seats.... leave the stock seat on the passenger side and get what you want for the driver. :thumb:

There is no secret short cut for a great fitting, strong, side-mount, supportive and lightweight racing seat. Anything cheaper than the standard Sparco, Cobra, Racetech, Momo quality composite seats is usually low quality, import stuff - that is almost always total junk. :( I've tried to do the cheap stuff, the steal framed seats, and even went on an aluminum seat kick for a few years (UltraShield, Kirkey, etc)... but they always have major drawbacks to a high end, fixed back, FIA certified composite seat from one of those 4 manufacturers above. Sucks... but you get what you pay for here.

When I was looking at the Imola's a few weeks ago the total price for 2 seats 2 planted brackets and 2 double locking sliders was $2289.00 from the link that was posted in this thread. That's way out of my budget. + you still have to pop for belts and hardware + a mounting system. That's easily another $500 or so according which products/methods you use. Hell that kind of money I could throw some more HP at this bad boy so I'd really need the racing seats. Lol

I feel like I cheaped out by going with the seats I did and I still spent over 1500 bucks with sliders, brackets, belts etc.

That could be a little rough on your instructor.... The ONLY time I refused to get into a car was a first-time guy with a BRAND NEW Viper, full containment seat, six points, HANS for him, and a stock leather seat with a three point for me. No thanks.

Nothing in the CCR, but please, at least get something close for those of us in the right seat. Doesn't have to match, make and model, but similar form would be nice. If you have a containment seat, six points, etc., please give us some kind of fixed-back seat, and at least five-point belts. If you show up with an Imola, and give us a Corbeau tube-frame seat, that'll be fine...
