custom geared Magnum

I undestood you had selected all the gears. I was wondering why 2 over drives, you never want to spin the tires more than the engine.

Two Quick questions:

1) Does anyone know if an aftermarket stick will fit the Magnum?

2) Is it a good idea to change out the trans fluid after the initial break in, say 1,000 miles or so?

1) Steeda makes an upgraded shifter for the Magnum. Although I don't think it needs it.
Edit: oh stick as in handle...? Not sure, haven't seen one. Again, doesn't need it.
2) According to the owners/service manual, you need to dump the fluid after the first 500 miles.

I think Hurst makes one, it comes with there trans set-up. No need to change the fluid after break in, But you know someone will insist it is needed. I would wait till 5000 miles

According to a conversation I had with Tremec, they recommend to dump the oil after 500 to remove any metal from the break-in.
I don't think it will damage the transmission since OEM doesn't do that...but who knows.

Up to you.

Thanks.

1) I don't think it needs a new shifter, I just want to replace that ugly black all thread it comes with. Preferably with a Chrome flat bar style stick.

2) Thanks, guess I should put that on the to do list.

What do you mean by "stick"? Do you mean the shifter? You really do not need an aftermarket shifter. If you do not like the shifter knob then swap it out for whatever shifter knob you want. Everybody and their brother sells shifter knobs.

He means the handle...between the shifter and ball; where the ball threads into.

The black will chip off so if you have rings or grab the ball from the bottom you will have to be very careful.

I ordered mine today, and I'm just gonna dip it. Takes 5 minutes and if it gets messed up down the road, peel it off and do it again. Easy peasy

Question...

1. Does your shifter seem to hug driver side and not be center?

2. Does your shifter "lug" rub the center console from the inside? (LUG: big main part that the handle bolts to)

I noticed it huged left when I first installed the trans, not rubbing. But now since my build, trans came out, then went back in, and now it rubs on the inside top left driver side.

Im thinking about putting 1-2 washer between the crossmember and the car just to help it clear. Bad idea?

Mine doesn't rub, it's perfectly centered IMO. Perhaps your transmission is favoring the driver's side. Is your motor also favoring the driver's side(motor mounts)? It might be as simple as loosening the transmission mounting bolts and wiggling it around before tightening it back down.

Gizmo, what year Mustang?

When JPC installed my 2011 last year, the tech mentioned that he had to literally move the tranny slightly to prevent the rubbing on the left side, and this is was indicative of the 2011-2013 models (at least that is how I interpreted it). Before moving the trans, he said it was pulling the console up out of the tabs when you tried to go to first or second.

Another forum guy who had it installed had to "shave" away a little of the console (under the boot) to keep the rub away.

Exactly my case. I trimmed some plastic so its better, but I'm a perfectionist and its bothering me. I'm gonna loosen the cross member and shove it over and see if that works. Its nice to read that I'm not the only one. Thanks guys

Oh yeah, 2013
