huh? the 3.55 was a factory option for me too (at least it was when i built my 2013).. not that it matters, i'd be sticking with the 3.31 on either of a 285/315 anyway..

as for your 18x9's, they'll still have great value as an FStreet-legal 5.0 brembo option if the +/- 1" rule goes through (my stock wheels are 19x9 +42) :)

3.55's were an option? I didn't know that, I thought it was 3.31 or 3.73 and that was it! :p

Yeah, I suppose they could be F-Street legal, provided someone was crazy enough to want to run a Mustang in F-Street! :D

I'm interested to see what, if anything has happened or will happen! :)

yeah man, my fingers are *firmly* crossed for an STX width bone to be tossed! especially with the '15s and their IRS on the way (with less weight and moar powah) and the possible overdog M3 in FS, the 1LE staying in FStreet, etc. i definitely plan on making a stop in STX for a season or two on my way to ESP, and would love to have a fighting chance :)

The latest FasTrack had nothing of importance regarding any of the Street Touring issues, much less the Mustang STU reclassing. It was all about "Street" class, Prepared and Mod.

July 2013 FasTrack: http://scca.cdn.racersites.com/prod/assets/13-fastrack-july-solo.pdf

Well our letters got out of the STAC and moved to the SEB so hopefully we will see info in the next FasTrack. I wouldnt be surprised if they held off until after Nats since the change (if any) wont take effect until next year anyway. I also got an email about the diff cover change for ST being moved so hopefully soon.

Good info in this thread. Thanks for the description of classes! It was a useful read for me. I just started participating in SCCA autox recently but only in F Stock since, well, im still stock lol. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your letters and hope that S197s get some relief. It definitely is difficult to run with most of the cars out there, particularly with the current restrictions.

I also got a message and I wish I had better insight into the SEBs decision. My assumption is that the cars will either move to STU or there will be a "live axle" wheels/tire allowance in STX or no change at all. I think that either of the last two are the most likely and a combination of the first and second the least likely. I dont think the SEB will move the cars to STU without more allowances as Dave and Mark made it very clear that it was one of those "out of the frying pan and into the fire" moves. Of course now that I have invested money in wheels and tires they will probably allow for more tire! ;)

The worst they could do would be to say that the move doesnt fit current class philosophy and there is no evidence to support a move as being necessary. I find this unlikely but more likely than just a dump of the pony cars to STU without an advantage. Fortunately there is at least one of us registered for Nats in an S197 and another who is verbally committed but hasnt registered yet.

We need more people to support Mustangs in ST regardless of the next FasTrack and SEB decision. For those on the car development path to ESP, I do urge you to make a stop in ST. The information gathered from Street Tire setup is still very valuable to SP prep and is a great learning tool for improving the driver.

Enough Rambling by me! The next FasTrack is 14 days away. That is 14 days not soon enough! :)

The great thing about that ESP/STX thing too...you can do a semi-serious ESP build and be a wheel swap away from ST legality. The suspension allowances are basically the same. I would be willing to bet that a lot of the non-science project ESP S197's out there would definitely try STX/STU if we had some tire to work with. It would be really nice to drive to and from events and not change tires! I would definitely give it a try. I WANT to run a street tire class, I really do, but I spent all of 2 events sliding around on 265's before I bought some big(ger) wheels and sticky tires.

You sure? or did it say "an upcoming" Fastrack.

It says in AN upcoming FasTrack. I sent a message to Mark over on the Sandbox asking if he could tell me which FasTrack the response will be in. Time will tell!

It does say an upcoming rather than the next, saw the email and got too excited to actually read it and comprehend it lol

Per MarkA on the SEB:

"The email means that the next FasTrack will have a response. I don't remember your letter specifically, but I recall some STU stuff being in there."

So...

Not sure if foreshadowing. :thud:

If that's true, I'd like to thank you for pushing the SEB to moving these cars to STU by your recent purchase of wheels and tires... is it too late to return them? lol

Here's to hoping allowing larger than 285mm tires so we have more choices near 27" diameter

if its STU and current rules still apply (285mm max) I'm going straight to tire rack and buying tires for next year lol (closeout R-S3s)

Don't look now folks, but tirerack has 285/35/18 RS3's for $159...maybe if enough of us buy them we'll get a wider tire allowance.

lol only reason why I haven't bought them yet... although they do have a 30 day return policy and the next fastrack will be out by then

I'm not returning these... Worse comes to worse, I have someone in line who will GLADLY buy them. Then it's off to buy more expensive wheels and tires! :D Or I'll just continue to use them until they are gone, keep the wheels for DD wheels, sell the stockers, and move on with life! :)
