2014 Mustang GT MT-82 transmission sounds like a diesel pickup truck...

I bought a 2014 GT a few weeks ago, and since the day I drove it off the lot, the transmission has been making an appalling noise at low RPM. Apparently it's quite common, and ford insists that its "normal", although it clearly isn't.

you can hear the noise quite clearly in this video:

at 0:41.

You'll notice it sounds a lot like an old diesel truck, or, dare I say, like a "garbage disposal".

I only hear this noise at VERY low RPM. For example, if I were driving around a parking garage in 2nd gear, at 10km an hour, and started to accelerate a bit, you would hear the noise, and it would be quite loud if the windows were down. Interestingly, it doesn't do it if I'm starting in first, or even second. The only time it makes this noise is if I am cruising around at a very low speed.

Anybody here have any experience with this noise, or ever have it diagnosed? Anyone know what it is, or what I can do about it?

For some background, the car is a 2014 mustang GT Cali Special, 6 speed manual, 3.73 gears, and a limited slip dif.

That is not normal. Take it to a different dealer. Insist they find out what's making the noise, even if you know it's the tranny and have them replace it under warranty.

I've had two 5.0's, both M6's, and I've never heard as much as a whimper out of either. Not even the whine I can hear in yours. In my experience, these are the most noiseless tranny's I've had the pleasure to experience and I have only driven manuals, for the past 30+ years. Mustangs especially.

Oh, by the way. No need to include the description, 'limited slip differential'. Ford has done the 'one wheel peel' in v8 Mustangs in years.

^ I should point out that we have basically Identical cars:

the car in that video is not mine. that's just a video I found on youtube showing the problem.

I don't hear anything in those vids, but if you're lugging it down, the sound may be coming from the backlash of the gears as the front face of one smacks the back of the other repeatedly from the low speed in too high a gear.

Does it do it if you drive the car through proper revs/acceleration??

That's exactly what I heard.

10-4, lugging the engine in a higher gear will definitely cause a rattling sound up front in the clutch area. I've driven about 5-6 different 5.0's and everyone had the exact same sound even with different mods.

i'm gonna post this again since it seems a lot of you didn't read the OP:

that video is not of my car, and its not of me. I don't know that guy. I'm just trying to show you guys what the noise is. its not about driving around in the wrong gear, its about the fact that the car makes that noise in FIRST gear. trying to get out of a parking garage sounds completely ridiculous when it sounds like there's a garbage disposal under the car at low speed.

It doesn't matter what gear you are in, when rpms are at 1,000 or below it will make that noise.

This probably won't end well, so I'm in for the lulz. lol

you're right. I had it into ford this morning, and there's a problem with the clutch not releasing properly....

what was that about this sound being normal? if you've got a 2013 or 14, and its making that sound, you should probably take your car in to the dealership.

again, since a lot of you guys didn't actually read the post, or really seem to give much of a care at all: it didnt matter what gear i was in. I'm not talking about having the RPMs down below 1000, I'm talking about having the SPEED down below 10km. Regardless of gear, regardless of RPM, it would make that sound.

Thanks for nothing, glad you guys could have a laugh at my expense for no particular reason.

if you're gonna hang around these parts, get a thicker skin, it's a internet message board, be prepared to be called out when you post things that are inconsistent or don't make sense.
