Max head flow for 25 psi race motor

Also, do any of you know what the min. recommended wall is for intake vrs water jacket and exhaust vrs water jacket?

Some say .030" BUT I'm gonna try to stay around .060" to be safe. I might try welding up a junk set of heads to see what happens

Got the combustion chambers done on head #1 today. Not sure if I am going to use the copper gasket or not, but it is there for reference. I need to get the valve guides out so I can port the heads to the extent I want to.

I also found out from my original engine builder that there is a speed shop right down the road that has a flow bench, can mill heads, and a Dynojet, if it has an Eddie brake, I have found a gold mine in my own back yard! I knew they were there but, didn't know they had all that. I will contact them on Monday.

Here is where I am at now.

Where are you getting your e85? I live in Tyler. I'm building the motor and tuning it in tulsa where e85 is available at the pump but I'll be driving it down in Tyler as well. I was just gonna order some c85 from vp.

I work in Dallas/Ft. Worth so I can just stop at most Kroger stores and fill up jugs. I check it every time with a tester though.

Two questions:

Are you checking the CCs of each chamber to make sure they are the same?

Are you going to throw them on a flow bench at some point just to see? I guess that won't mean much now as it would be cool to see the before/after, and it looks like if you do, you will only have the "after"--then on top of that, it still won't really be accurate unless with your set up unless you can mimic 25 psi boost somehow.

I will be matching the CCs on the chambers. I plan to CC them all and use the smallest one to mill the heads to get the correct CR and then remove a little material at a time till the they are all the same or very close

As for the flow bench, I will have access to one for the finished product. I am not doing before and after as I don't really care what the were before. They were a light port job before and I will leave it at that. I would like to flow them though just to see what it ended up being. And If I don't it really wont matter much since I will be pushing 25 psi though them. It would be nice to see if I made past the off the self flow rates though.

You are in a way trying to take a 3v head and give it the huge port volume of a 4V B head. Velocities be damned LOL.

I removed the valve guides and cleaned up the bowls and lower runners.














I did find a thin spot though just above the spark plug threads. I will have my buddy weld it up and then I can smooth it back out like the rest.

^^^^damn I never heard of that stuff before, looks pretty awesome. That welding on the aluminum can was pretty awesome. The only thing I don't understand is, if it has a melting point that is 500 degrees less then aluminum, then how could you use it for repair of the cylinder head combustion chamber like they showed in one of the clips?

I did not end up milling the delete plates, I am going to fill them instead. That way I will not loose the 5.5mm I was going to shave off. I have ordered a small order from the above mentioned company to test there product out. If it works well I will make a larger order and do the plates with it. Here is what I am talking about on the bottom of the plates.



As you can see with the gasket on top, my new ports are as big as the factory gasket would be. That puts the new port right at the inner edge of the factory gasket groove.

That's what I was wondering as well (what is the melting point of alum. though) and why I only ordered a small amount to test it.
