Wow I didnt know driving an auto car revoked my man card! Lol I have talked to several vendors and tuners today and they had good points for both. In the end they all said if boosted auto is the way most people go.

BTW I posted this in tech by mistake. I didn't see this section of the fourm. I'm really not an idiot...lol. Thanks for the info keep it coming.

One of my goals is to beat my buddies 665hp lighting. His is auto and is a total handful to drive. 1/2 throttle and the 408 spins the vortech up and nothing but tire smoke...lol

Auto's are so much better then they were even ten years ago. With that said I still prefer the option to change gears myself. I feel more in tune with the car and like i am actually driving it not operating it. It is all personal preference though.

As others said I think there are two factors. What power do you intend on making, and how you are going to use the car. Add the fact that the 6R80 is just an awesome trans when compared to the 5R55S junk.

A relentless pull making you go " OH fuck OH fuck OH fuck, OK STOP!!!!!" It's fun to shift a stick, WOT is much more fun overall in a booster car w an auto

I must say that I saw a video of someones turbo auto 5.0 on here a while back, and it was ridiculously fast, pulled hard even while shifting and really did great... but I still think running auto takes the fun out of building a fast car, I just don't think I'll ever have one.

There's no problem with running an auto if that's what you really want, my girlfriend has an auto stang, and that's fine... but not for me.

I say go with the stick for the "maximum fun", after all, what are fast cars for if not to be fun

The amount of people opting for autos these days is sickening.
Autos make it 100% car vs car. That's the same as having it money vs money.

At least with the manuals the underdog can win because driver skill is actually required.

If you have money and want to boost and just push your pedal to the floor and win and have it not feel rewarding what-so-ever, buy an auto.

If you're a "man" and like to do "man" things like driving a "manual"... well you get the jist.

I'll never buy an auto sports car, just my opinion.

Auto for the track so all you have to do is hold the steering wheel and try not to fall asleep.
Stick for someone who likes to actually drive their car and depend on their skills.

My thing is, it's MUCH more impressive to see a stick car with an awesome driver than an auto that literally anyone can get into and run the number.
You can literally put a 10yr old in the car and tell them to press the pedal and keep the wheel straight and they will run that same time you just did.

To that I say meh, MEH sir!

One (not the only but most important) reason I went to an auto on my current car is because in my own personal opinion remote shifter linkages suck..... My last car was a supercharged 2008 with a manual 5 speed and I can't count the number of times I could not get it to go from 2nd to 3rd at full throttle. Granted there was likely a few things I could have done to help minimize it like stiffer motor mounts and a che-brace but it was pretty frustrating. I like a manual transmission and they are a lot of fun but I was in the same position as the user who wrote this, I wanted a fast and consistant car at the strip. I've ticked off 4 to 5 runs in a row all within .05 of a second of each other, it's hard to get that kind of consistancy out of a manual. You can be a man and drive a manual all you want but don't come back to the board crying when a girl driving the auto blows your doors off when you miss a shift or don't do it right lol I'd rather win and smile than have the excuse of "I drive a manual car and missed a gear".

I had a 2011 auto and I currently have a 2011 manual and a 2014 auto.
The auto cars with a tune and converter will slaughter the manual cars.

And for the guys that say anyone can drive a auto come take a ride in my 2014. I blows 275/60 dr loose at 50+ mph roll and fishtails all over the road try that with a N/A manual.
Also the auto can have a transbrake for cheap(about $20) and launch so hard that even a 6K+ rpm clutch drop seems soft!

The manual is nice at 400ish RWHP and high 11's after that the auto is 100% tha way to go IMO

Jason Rice(onebadgsx) swapped from a 2012 manual to a 2013 auto with same blower combo and went from high 10's to high 9's

Anyone that says an auto is boring, or not fun to drive just hasn't driven one with enough power. Corvette people are constantly dropping $15k+ to convert to autos in their cars because they like to go fast. One guy I know went from running 10.2s to 8.8s just from swapping to an auto.

That's a 12 sec car try that with a 10-sec car and report back
big difference.
I have done that in multiple 11/12 sec cars with manuals but get into the 10's and its a whole different world
