How you destroy a brand new ARP Coyote balancer bolt.

Rings arrived today so everything looks good for install on the 2nd.

So it takes a lathe? What were you doing, cutting it down and rethreading?

Probably some mech or material engineer is swearing at me from somewhere but I can't find a proper bolt here and the ones I've found I just don't trust they are really at least 10.9 so I chose to do this.

I'd think the bolt would be too hard to machine without annealing and reheat treating. Is that what you found out? I'd also think that a 10.9 would work just fine with the correct torque. As you know the keyway and friction are doing all the holding. The bolt is just there for a failsafe "just in case". You could always drill the head and lockwire it to feel better, lol.

Why didn't you just order the raw material, machine it, then send it off to be heat treated?

Good expiriment to see how cut threads work vs. Rolled. As long as they don't strip on install it will probably last.

Lol, I may do that, I haven't found a better bolt yet, thankfully the balancer is sooooo tight that I don't think it would even need the bolt, lol. Plan is to use this bolt but don't think I'll go the whole 100lbs/ft ARP states.

Because I live on a third world country, were finding an stupid bolt has become an odyssey.

Hahaha I have the video of my engine first start. It was also the first time I had done an engine first start, and in the context of running everywhere when the smoke starts, it's freaking hilarious.

Is a Roush UDP (looks really nice BTW, way better than Steedas, if you one makes the typical and some times idiotic "looks" valuation) and plan is to use some sealant at the key as with the others. I think the snuggy fit is more because of the reworked nose.

Had a close look at mine and it turns out that the Roush UDP is made by PowerBond, it even has the powerbond logo on it. It is Australian made so it is not some cheap Asian manufactured piece.

I'm planning on reusing mine for my forged shortblock build.
