Circle D converter letter?

Just kind of a gee-whiz question.. Does anyone know what the letter behind the number is for? Example 4b or 4c?

The letter does note the stall size and works like this:
1C is 3000-3200
2C is 3200-3400
3C is 3500-3700
4C is 3600-3800
5C is 4000-4200

I have a Circle-D 4E converter in my 6R80. The 4E can be tailored to your needs, and Chris set mine up to flash to 5000 rpm's, but he can restall a 4E for any rpm you need.

Brian said its the pump/stator combination. So the difference between a 4b and 4c is the stator, but the difference between a 3b and 4b is the pump. Different results for different power combos.

Huh? According to your little chart it looks like the number indicates the stall speed. Wtf? Letter is the same in those but the stall speeds are different. I'm confused.

Pump AND stator combos will change stall speed. So a 4c will flash to 3600-3800 where a 4e will flash to about 5000 with the same power level. Also changing the diameter of the converter will affect stall speed. Ex. 245mm for a n/a car that needs lots of rpm and "only" has to hold 550whp vs a 265mm that can leave with less rpm but a bunch more power 1200whp plus.

My list was for the 5R55. The 6R80 has many combos that they can build for all different engine combos. The guys at Circle D Specialties (convertors) and the transmission shop are all good people to work with. They will answer any question and guide you to the best combination for the goals set for your car.
