Very nice! Unfortunate problem but good that you saw an opportunity in it.

Yep. Benefits of working in the business, even for a couple of years :). However, in buying the truck today, I found out the state now charges a $5.50 "Tire Tax." Like that crap is going towards anything here.

Since I couldn't afford a motor replacement, I went ahead and traded it in today for a new F-150. I had already been thinking about getting a truck so that I could build a car for the track, and use the truck for a daily. The plan just hit earlier than expected.

Just curious how much trade did you get on the mustang with a blown motor? Understood if you would rather not say.

They would've given me $20k had the motor not been blown. They are probably going to sell it at $22-$23k, even if they try to list it higher. A friend of mine traded in a wrecked GTI when I was there, and they tried to sell for $10k over what they gave him (WAY over book value, so it would not hold a loan). However, when they finally sold the car, they ended up losing $2k.

For my car, they factored about $7-$8k in replacing the motor (Including labor, this is what the service manager quoted them, plus they were going to charge me about that amount too), putting cats back on (They just need to find stock H-Pipe/cats and swap it. About $800 total from Tasca), putting on new tires (can range from $900-$1,200, even with their vendors), their "used car pack" (about $1,500), etc.

I ended up trading for $12k which was over what I owed, and I'm fine with that with a car that needs a motor. They were trying to hit me at $10k, but that was WAY too low for what I would let it go for, even if it had a blown motor. I was aiming for $13-$15k, but they had found out about the cats yesterday when I tried to make the final "push" on the trade. Had they not found out about it (and I did tell my friend about it the first day), I probably would've gotten that extra $1,000 out of it.

I'll still hang around on the forums. It passes time at work :).

Well, time to spill the beans. The last weekend of September, I ran the good ol' "Dark Horse" at an HPDE weekend. It was a freaking blast. Hitting 150+ mph before braking into turn 1. Passing people left and right (especially some fairly modded Vettes).

The last 20 minute session, the car quit on me with about 5 minutes to go. There wasn't smoke, gauges read normal, no smells, etc. I coasted it to the pit area, and it would not fire back up. Long story short, the motor locked up, and because of the tune, Ford denied the warranty for a new motor. :(

Since I couldn't afford a motor replacement, I went ahead and traded it in today for a new F-150. I had already been thinking about getting a truck so that I could build a car for the track, and use the truck for a daily. The plan just hit earlier than expected.

I'm going to miss that car. It was probably the best decision I made in my life, so far, in buying that car. It definitely won't be the last Mustang I own.

Tough break. What year is your car, 2011 or 2012 ? Do you know what locked up in the eng, or if anything broke, esp if gauges read normal? Sustained high rpm may have been what did it in. For the extremely small difference in price, the aluminator 5.0 would be an ideal replacement eng vs the oem coyote.

It was a 12. If I was able to afford a new motor, I already had an Aluminator type in mind.

I think I liked the black one better. Your black car was the only one I ever saw stay clean all the time.

The newest blowers fit on the old engines? Wow! I bet that is great.

Yup, direct swap with supporting mods (bigger MAF, fuel, etc..). Only thing needed for 13+ blower to be compatible is an EVAP adapter, which takes a whole minute or so to install.
