I love my "new to me" 2011 Kona blue premium GT automatic with only 32,000 miles that I traded in last week from my white base 2012 manual car, but I must say, the car is lazy off the line. It feels like maybe half throttle when floored until about 15mph, and then feels pretty much identical to my manual car for the rest of the time. I hate to admit it, but I now own a car that will barely squeak the tires from a dig, hahaha. And I'm also not too worried if I don't get a chance to swap on my drag radials before I head to the track with it next weekend. To say ford left out some performance tuning from the factory is the understatement of the decade on these autos, or at least "this auto". But once she gets rolling a little bit, it feels identical to the power of my manual, and traps nearly the same.
I know a tune and stall converter will even out the playing fields, and any future mods from after those two critical mods will probably net me better results, but according to my G-tech pro, I have over a second to make up in the 1/4, and about .7 to make up in the eighth compared to my manual car. Just a word to the wise, if you can drive a standard well, and don't care to modify your car much, and want to go quickly in a straight line, get a manual, but if you're like me and like to modify your vehicles, I'm sure the auto will work great, I'm suspecting spectacularly when in conjunction with a power adder of some kind.
