How would the TCS switch prevent anyone from having fun smoking the tires, just simply turn it off as you would on any non-rental, retail S197?

If there is no TCS button like the OP described and that is how they made the cars for rentals then there is no way to turn off the fun button...

I'm wondering if the OP had a previous owner remove/replace the switch assembly with a V6 version that didn't have TCS. Would keep other drivers from turning off the TCS in this instance.

Yes, I agree if there is no TCS button available for the rental cars, then there is no way they can be turned off. However, as I mentioned earlier, I wasn't even aware of the rental cars not having TCS button switches and therefore assumed they also had them just as the retail cars that came with them from the factory.

After watching the video, I'm also wondering if a previous owner either removed or replaced the switch assembly as well. As it would appear according to the video you posted, the TCS switch is indeed present on the GT-H rental car

I will attest to the fact of when you get a rental you see what it can do. Rented a Shelby GT-H from Hertz in Atlanta in 2017 for a day and can fully attest that it will bury the speedometer. Also rented a Dodge Charger with the Hemi from National the next trip there and it did the same thing. All the functions worked on both cars. I could change modes / traction control / etc on both rentals. The GT-H I had to give everything but a DNA sample to rent. The Hemi Charger - nothing more than regular rental.

Did the v-6 Mustangs have traction control? Could be a panel for a V-6. Like I said, my car came with a convertible window switch panel by mistake. When you're looking at a bunch of cars at a factory you can easily miss a small detail like that. It's an assembly line. Panel fell out of one bin and into another. A guy plugs it in and snaps it into the dashboard. Maybe it was Monday and he was hung over. Maybe it was Friday and he was rushing to get out. maybe it was someone who doesn't usually work that station. The human factor is what I would attribute it too.

I don't believe the 4.0 SOHC ever had a DBW throttle body so I don't think they ever had traction control. My '09 Ranger doesn't have traction control. So yeah I think it ended up with one from a V6 car.

The V6 intake manifold page on my 2008 shop manual shows two electrical connections but no mechanical operation.

I think an actual on/off switch is a smart decision. It mentally puts you in the mode "hey, if I don't lift or be on point, I will wreck this car"

And if it's always off, you'll always know you always have to be "on point" . . . a good thing even if all it means is you won't ever forget or guess wrong about the TC status when the chips are down. You won't ever have to drive differently, like you can when you know TC is 'on' and you can let yourself get a little sloppy . . . and have it bite you in the ass when you think TC is on and it isn't.

Do rental car companies have stick shift cars available? I haven't seen a manual trans mustang for rent ever.

If it was my car I'd try to find out more about it's history. Maybe it was rebuilt and parts from a base mustang were used?

I managed to rent a MT car once, down in FL, something like 25 years ago. Think it was a Ford Probe. Don't think I've seen one since but then again I don't do the rental thing very often.

The 4.0 had both a drive by wire throttle body and depending upon the options selected had TCS. The 2006 Pony edition had lots of equipment added to the package, including TCS and ABS, along with upgraded front and rear sway bars (no tlok though, still had a 7.5 open diff). In 2007 the TCS and ABS was part of the "safety package" option; not sure but I thought in 2009 all Mustangs had ABS and TCS.

Everything was enabled on the 2015 V6 vert I had. It also made terrible noises from the trans. And had brutal wheelhop when I did shut stuff off to do a burnout. But man, was it nice outside in Hawaii, and such great roads! If the locals hadn't resented me so badly for being a dirtbag white colonialist I would do it again!

rented a Shelby GT-H back in '08 I think it was. It had a TCS button, but there was a piece of plastic behind it making it so you couldn't push it down to disable it ... unless you pushed on the corner of the button real hard. Then it would turn it off

There are four wires for the TCS switch within the overall hazard switch assembly and the colors are:
Pin 1 Black - Common
Pin 4 Violet - TCS indicator lamp
Pin 6 Light Blue w/White tracer - Feed from SJB
Pin 7 White w/Pink tracer - TCS switch

All of these are in the C2039 connector for the hazard switch assembly

So to update, I pulled the panel and these wires are most definitely in the plug. Already ordered a TCS switch panel.

Still can't figure out why in the hell the previous owner or whoever removed the TCS from the dash panel, to begin withBut in the end, all that really matters is you got everything straightened out and were able to order a TCS switch panel

That would explain the reason behind not including the TCS panel switch, especially if the V6 in question was only a base model
