Really surprised to see that this site is not secure.
We all enter personal information (passwords???) every day we log in.
@Shaggy , is this an oversight?

BFD. Why would an open discussion forum use security measures as strict as your bank website or an online store? You're not entering any sensitive information. Well, unless you use the same user name and password here as you do on your bank's website.

I think you're looking for something to bitch about and haven't really thought it through.

There are different levels of SSL security a website can use. The standard SSL certificate provides security and is fine for a website like this. This site doesn't process credit cards so it doesn't need the $500/year top-level SSL certificate.
But having even the standard SSL certificate secures the site, the passwords we enter when we log in, our personal info that might not be visible to all members (just yourself/admins/moderators). And it helps with Search Engine ranking.
Google doesn't take a site seriously unless it's secure. It de-ranks unsecure sites, making them harder to find.
Since this is a business for Shaggy, he needs to be aware of this, since it will only make it harder for potential new members to find the site. And lower site traffic leads to less advertising sales.
So yeah, there are a bunch of reasons why this site should be secured.

Not an over site. Planning on getting it put in in a few days. You have nothing to worry about if the site isn't SSL unless you store your bank info or SS on here. It does lower the site's search ranking due to Google liking SSL sites more then the non SSL. I just haven't installed it yet. Not an over site, just haven't done it.

It has more to do than bank info.
It leaves the site open to being hacked.
I do web design and SSL is something I recommend to every customer.
It's a small fee for me to set it up, and the hosting company we use/recommend offers a free SSL option, so it's not a big-money expense. But it can surely be a hassle if the site gets hacked.
Looking forward to seeing this site be secure, since I'm on here quite a bit.
Thank you for replying.

Thank you!
Hope it wasn't too much trouble :)

It was something that was needed to be done along time ago and I just put if off.

Your post was funny though as I was pushing to get it done a week or so before I even saw your thread and then I see it. Made me laugh. Glad that you are that into the site to notice that.

My wife and I do web design/development, it's one of the first things I notice when I go to a site these days.
After I posted this thread I went to a few other forums I frequent and I was shocked that the majority are not secure.
Glad that this site is now secure, it's one great way to stand out among the many forum options for a visitor.

There are alot that didn't think anything of it, forum owners. I was one for awhile until this year but just haven't done it to all my sites yet. Getting there, but with some forum still on vB, its pretty tough to get those done. XF has made it so much more easier.
