Gabe, although I totally agree the DCT is an automated manual transmission that can shift as little as 80 milliseconds as you've mentioned, I'd still prefer the fun factor enjoyment of rowing through my own gears manually, never the less lol.

Yeah, I reckon there's half a second to gain just with better traction. Strip out 400-500lb and it could hit 9's without adding more power.

And that's for the base model so the fully optioned version will be even heavier.
Despite that, it's estimated to do the 1/4 mile in about 10.8 @ 132.
I'd expect a Dynojet chassis dyno to show in the region of 690rwhp, which would put the drivetrain loss at just under 10% if Ford's claimed 760hp is to be believed.

I read that the 760 is being claimed as rear wheel horsepower. Speculation is that crankshaft horsepower is mid 800!

That rumor came out after a Ford employee was heard saying that the engine actually produces 850 HP but it takes 90 HP to turn the blower.

The 760 is still a crankshaft number.

Before 1972, engs were rated as... SAE gross. This was crank hp, excluding any loads on the crankshaft, like crank driven fan, alternator, oil pump, AC, water pump, power steering etc, etc. It was a BS rating.

After 1972, engs were rated as...SAE net. Still rated in crank hp, but included all loads on the crankshaft. IE: actual measured hp at the crank. All those various loads add up to a bunch....and even more with a blower.

All paddle shifters accomplish is by pressing a button up/down to change gears. There's no manual clutch involved, no gear shift lever to maneuver, therefore far from solving the fun factor problem, at least as far as I'm concerned. IMO anyone can press a lousy button either up or down when switching to a lower/higher gear, but it takes some actual real skill when it comes to operating a traditional manual transmission by rowing through your own gears. That being said, if I were in the market for a new Mustang or Shelby variant? I'd take the current GT350 over the upcoming 2020 GT500 hands down and if more power is desired? adding a blower or turbo becomes problem solved lol.

It's not the same though...

Not only is it not the same, but also boring when compared to rowing through your own gears lol.

I wonder whether a bias ply slick or a radial will be the right tire for a DCT at the strip?

That's if you like Play Station.

Local buddy let me drive both his Fusion..and also his Jaguar..... both have paddle shifters. Took a bit of getting used to, but I finally got into the rhythm of things. In manual paddle shifter mode.... say in 4th or 5th gear.... and come to a stop sign, when you go again, it starts off in 1st. So all you do is keep upshifting. I could also paddle shift down, like 6-5-4-3-2-1.... then stop.

The rub for me was the paddles were attached to the column... instead of the wheel.... which is a major pita imo. The 'novelty' wore thin after 20-30 mins. Both those cars are automatics...with paddle shifters... not a DCT.

I'd be willing to bet most of the people against paddle shifters have yet to drive a car with them, especially in a high performance environment such as on a track. To this day I've never seen or heard a race car driver that uses them get out of their car and complain about them.

You are still shifting the car, you are just pulling on paddles instead of a shifter. You still have to think about the shifting points and pull the paddles, your mind will adjust to that in a short period of time and after it does you will not miss a clutch again.

I agree 100% with this, having a manual transmission is about experiencing the car in a totally different way. We all know an automatic is faster, but the experience in a shit ton different. Also the sense of achievement when doing something awesome in a manual car, can't even compare to sitting there holding a pedal down and enjoying the scenic view.

Go to you tube right now and look up 7, 8, 9, 10 second cars with automatics going down the drag strip. Then look up stick shift racing and let me know which one was more exciting and appears to be an actual achievement with skill involved.

I'll wait...

oh and I will leave some cool examples here of skill and pure adrenaline pumping excitement in a stick shift car...

I drive with hand controls so require an auto, I have just as much fun with an auto as I could with a manual shifted car, plus I truly believe I have a much higher chance of cutting a better light with an auto. I also believe in any instance the hand is quicker than the foot. You will never shift with a clutch as quickly as paddles, so from a competition standpoint it's a no brainer....

Here's my .006 light at BIR.... I made the quick 8 of the night, but red lit my next round.... this is my 2010 Roush so no paddles in this car, but just a comparison as it is an auto, have not had my 2018 with paddles on the 1/4 mile yet but I'll guarantee it's going to be faster than my Roush.
I also had lights of .019 and .023 on the same night. Car was completely stock at this time other than 305/45/18 MT ET Streets on the rear....

There is no doubt you can't shift as quick as an auto in a stick shift car, (nice light BTW I am shit at reaction times) but there is a certain excitement factor missing. \I'm not saying you're missing it but in general you can clearly see which is more exciting for the average on-looker and in car.

So yea, it's going to be faster but that is already established.
Just being faster is not all of the experience for me, it's displaying that skill and being kind of connected to the car and the feeling of accomplishment when you're good at shifting/power shifting/downshifting, rev matching etc... Yea I know the new cars rev-match for you now... sad shit :roflmao:

I feel the same way about cars that can park for you and keep you in your lane and stop for you etc... at some point... might as well just not drive (my future is bullshit rant)
