I think this is probably the right place for this... My 06 is riding on Sportlines and is fairly noisy on the road compared to other Mustangs I’ve driven.

Curious as to who has dynamated their Mustangs. How much has it helped and what areas were most effective at reducing road noise? I’ve got a 36sqft bulk pack on the way and want to make the best use of it. I was thinking the trunk, under the seats and the side panels in the rear and as far forward as I can get.

interested to hear what worked well for you guys.

Did exactly what you describe above, I should have used a decimal meter app on my phone for a before and after. But I think it made a difference and would do it again

That’s not a bad idea! I should go take a baseline dB reading before and then after install. I’d be curious to see just how effective it is.

In my experience, Dynomat (and competitors) do a good job of mitigating exhaust drone when installed in the trunk, as well as giving an overall "solid" feel to the doors and cabin when used throughout. If you are going to take the time to remove seats and install on the floorboard, you would be remiss if you didn't to the doors.

From the hip, I wouldn't have thought it would help with the type of noise you get from lowering springs, but perhaps the "solid," vibration absorption would . . . some.

It will NOT help with high pitched noises, like when aftermarket suspension transmits transmission and differential whine.

I did something similar recently to my 04. I know, different body style, but notably louder. I've been dealing with a gear whine since replacing the bearings in my diff. We tried hard, but just didn't get the gears back exactly where they were. I have aluminum diff mounts and delrin cradle mounts. So I get some noise to go along with my Stingers. On the freeway the gear noise gets old. I ordered a 2sqft kit of Boommat and lined under the back seat to see if it would make a difference. Boy did it. The whine is still there. But the stereo easily covers it up now. I really want to do the trunk now.

You are saying that the sound deadener you used quieted the loud pitched gear whine. Did you use the stick-on, roof tar stuff like what people generally reference when talking about dynomat, or did you use the foam-like stuff that resembles carpet padding?

I used the stuff that sticks to the metal. It made a difference in the volume of the whine. I'm not going to bother with poly mounts now.

Interesting. I've never heard anyone say that stuff helped with the high frequency whine. Glad it worked for you

Maybe it's because of where I used it. Its pretty close to where the cradle mounts to the body. Even my son noticed a difference.

I did my entire car and most of my sons'. Floorboards, back seat, doors, trunk, etc. The only area I didn't do was the roof. Still, what a difference. The car is very, very quiet and I have a supercharger. No whine or wind noise at speed at normal throttle. Comes thru only when you get on it.... You can buy 50 sq ft for around $100 on ebay. I've used both types (butyl w/aluminum & 10mm heavy foam insulation/aluminum) and both will do a good job of knocking down all kinds of noise. Well worth the investment... ;D

Got done installing 36sqft in the trunk, and all under the back seat including all the sides. I didn’t go any further forward yet as I’ll need another pack, but it was a noticeable improvement. Road noise is down a bit and the exhaust drone is much better. I’m thinking the doors and the floor will help with the noise that is left and I’m definitely interested in doing the rest now.
