anyone running extra clutch plates in the stock LSD?

Care to expand on why, exactly?

Not that I know any better, but I was under the impression that the carbon ones work like the stockers, just last longer. I don't have any evidence to back that up, I'm just asking because I need to make a decision on which ones I'm going with too.

I'm not sold on the whole carbon deal personally. I have seen zero evidence that they last longer or hold better. We used standard clutches in my old '98 GT that I raced in Mod Motor class for six years. In '01 we went to a 3.73 gear and added one extra clutch to each side and used the "S" spring from a Chevrolet 10 bolt truck rear end in the stock posi unit when we put it back together. Never failed me. Not once. In the six years it was in the car I had over 2100 runs on the car and 256,712 miles total on the odometer. It would still light BOTH tires at any time I wanted.

Sometimes new stuff is good. Sometimes new stuff is just hype. Until I see evidence suggesting otherwise the standard clutches are fine for me.

well then guess when i get mine done ill just by the standard clutch paks and have my shop do the extra clutch pack thing instead of the carbon clutch packs

Don't forget the Chevrolet 10 bolt truck "S" spring. That part is VITAL.

I have never used an S10 spring, I guess it has a higher rate? The S10 has an 10 bolt, 7.5", like an F-body, right?

No...not the S10 pickup. A full size pickup 10 bolt rear end "S" spring. Circa early '80's type Silverado or something like that.

would it have to be the Chevy S Spring?

one of the reasons i was leaning towards the carbon clutch kit was that it came with an S spring versus the standard kit only coming with the clutch packs.

Im guessing your going to say yes lol, and im guessing the reason will be because the chevy spring is much more heavy duty

What are you asking me for? Call the dealership. I just ask them for the "S" spring for that application and they sent it over. Keep in mind that was in 2001. I've had a few issues since then so my memory is a bit fuzzy.

Maybe back in 2001 guys working at the GM dealers were more competent..

Ask, and you shall receive. It helps, that I am really handy with a google search engine. The GM part number for an 8.5", s-type, posi-traction, spring is 231260. Your price at Randy's is $12.63 and GM Parts Direct has it for $9.46. Do not confuse this with the Eaton differential's, coil-style springs.

Not a problem! It lists as a 300# spring, and there is a picture of it on DTS.
