E Force removal for clutch change

Has anyone on here with an E Force replaced their clutch? I was wondering if I need to remove the blower from the engine to do it. Does it make that much easier to get the trans in and out? I also would imagine that a clutch change would be similar to cars with a Saleen blower.

ehhh....i wouldnt think youd need to remove any blower to pull a tranny?

I've never changed my clutch yet, But I understand that some lower the back of the motor for clearance, Then one poster chimed in and said all you have to do is clock the transmission and it comes right out.

Maybe a search for that thread?

There is very little clearance from the back of the blower to the firewall. I would say less than an inch. I will not be able to tilt the motor much if any at all if I don't remove it. Plus I am probably going to do this on my back with the car on jack stands.. YUK

I searched and found that thread. I was just wondering if it was a whole lot easier with the motor tilted. If removing the blower is worthwhile in making it easier, I certainly will do that. I just don't want to go through all that additional work if it's not worth it.

I've pulled my Whipple every time (3 now) for clutch/TOB changes. Some have said that they didn't have to but for the time it takes, I just do it that way.

According to a thread on the Edelbrock forum, it can be done without removing the supercharger... but it is very tight. The guy who posted the thread stated the shop doing the work ended up pulling it just to make bolt access easier (and this was on lift).

I certainly will. I believe, I am going to go ahead and remove the blower just to be safe. I would hate to get into the clutch change then have to drop the car down to remove the blower. Plus, I don't want to put any stress on the new clutch trying to wrestle the trans into place. I will probably tackle this within the next couple of weeks. My shop has AC but I cant get my car in there right now. I may do it in my garage if we get a couple of days when it isn't so freakin hot.

I replaced my transmission without removing my Saleen S/C and my S/C doesn't allow for tilt of the engine. That being said, I'm not sure if it would be easier to take the S/C off or not. To get the top trany bolts I needed like 4 extensions and a lot of patience, but to get the S/C on and off I have to deal with the rear passengers side bolt under the BOV. Come to think of it I think dealing with the extensions was easier.

I know where you are coming from. Its not easy pulling that blower off either. After draining the coolant from the intercooler and the radiator, there is a bunch of crap that's got to be taken loose. Some of the bolts are a pain to get to on the E Force also. Luckily, I have a long extension ball socket allen wrench, which helps a good bit with them. I dread it but it's got to be done. I'm slipping pretty bad in third under full throttle.

Well, I only made it about 1200 miles on the stock clutch after putting the Nitto 305Rs on. I made it to the local 1/8th strip once with them right after getting them, and honestly it was not a good night for traction. It was about 90 degrees and the track prep was horrible. Not trying to make excuses but it is the truth. The best I ran that night was a 7.72 @ 95 and I spun pretty bad in second. I actually roasted the clutch on the street over the last 500 miles or so. I put the drag radials on and also welded in some BMR lower control arm brackets to put some "bite" in it. Unlike at the strip, I hook like a mofo on the street. That's what did it in. Now when I go into 3rd at full throttle the tach goes north. I honestly believe that when I get this clutch in and get it broken in, I will run under 7.50 with traction and a little cooler weather. That's my goal anyway. If not, a forged short block and a 3" pulley, in the hopefully near future, should do it......I hope.

I would say after down it now, I can probably get the S/C off in a few hours and back on in the same time. I just clamped off my coolant hoses.

The good thing is that I don't have to have my car back up and running in any length of time. I really don't care how long it takes. I am just going to do whatever makes it easier and from what I understand, removing the blower definitely makes it easier. I will probably take my time over a couple of days to do it.

I replaced my clutch witout removing the E-force. It´s tight but possible...
I couldn´t tilt my engine anyway because of my long tube headers. I did not had enough room to pull the transmisson back far enough out of the clutch pressureplate, so I loosen the clutchbolts with the transmission under the car and removed it with the transmission. Attaching the transmission to the engine worked like charm, no problems at that point....
And you can loose the 2 upper transmission bolts from above, it´s a little bit tricky but it works fine and IMO easier than working with a extremly long extension on the ratchet....

ive changed 3 clutches myself now. I have a KB blower and never once removed it. I fought the transmission to get it out and in each time. I think the easier way to do it is to remove the blower, tilt the engine so your not fighting the bellhousing hitting the transmission tunnel

I agree that removing the S/C is probably going to make the transmission removal much easier.

Well I am finally getting around to replacing my clutch. I started around 2:00pm today and worked until 10:00. My goal for today was to get the tranny out. I met my goal but it was not nearly as easy as I expected. I had to pull the blower off the motor to get it to tilt and it still wasn't enough because the headers hit the K member. I know some say that the trans will come out without tilting the motor but I just don't see it happening. I am just going to go ahead and say it. Sorry if I offend anyone but whoever decided to engineer these transmissions with an integral bell housing needs their ass kicked inside out. I would love to be the one to do it! It is a horrible design. If I ever upgrade my trans, I will get one with a separate bell housing. There will be no other option for me. I absolutely dread going back in with it. I may even drop the K member down some to get some clearance. Well any way, it's out after I invented some new curse words. I have some prothane motor mounts on order and plan to put them in this week also. I hope to get this done by the weekend. I usually like turning wrenches on my car but this time it sux.
