At this point I'm tempted to set up some sort of in-car camera so I can record the sequence of shifts and sounds of the grinding. Just so the dealer can't put me off again this time, once again saying they couldn't replicate it.

I like this idea. And post it up here.

The TSB is for cars built before 4-25 or something like that.

When i got mine repaired ford is repairing any and all mustangs from any build month, because ford changed the TSB. Atleast thats what my service manager to me.

Interesting. I'm baffled that the dealer didn't even touch my clutch except to not bleed it properly after the new transmission was installed.

Got back from the track tonight running 28x11.5x15 ET Streets shifting at 7100-7300 RPM. Never once did the clutch or transmission bat an eye. Rock solid.

**Keeps fingers crossed**

Good to hear. In the next month or so i'm really REALLY going to test this factory clutch, and trans. I hope it can handle some power.

Wow.. glad I found this thread. I've been driving Manual Transmissions exclusively for 25 years and have had both the worst (1981 Plymouth Reliant) and best (2008 Mazda Miata) manual transmissions out there. When I test drove the 2011 5.0 with MT82 (multiple times... multiple dealers) I was shocked at how smooth take offs in first were (kudos to clutch) and how crisp the shifter was in all gears (kudos to MT82). I took delivery 9/11/10 with 50 miles on the clock and everyone who drove the car that first week also commented on the clutch/tranny being superb.. the best American manual most had ever driven.

Fast forward a few hundred miles and I came to realize that smooth starts from first were impossible... the clutch seemed very on/off... and worse yet, shifts from 1-2 and 2-3 were usually met with a lot of clunking and light grinding. I brought it in and they acknowledged both symptoms. Last week, they replaced the flywheel and entire clutch assembly. When I picked up the car, the smooth starts from 1st seemed like they returned, but the shifting issues were not fixed. Was told to bring it back and they would drive it to compare to a new one... and would most likely replace the tranny.

My transmission was NEVER clunky when new... very much like my miata...click-click-click into gear. If you're experiencing a clunky transmission, BY ALL MEANS... bring it it. The more of us who complain, the sooner they'll get to the bottom of this..

Mine is going back to the dealer again (redundancy fully intended) on Saturday. They're going to dig into it more on Monday to see if they can find the culprit.

I'm ready to get my money back. I've lost the equivalent of several days of work dealing with this and with so many others having identical problems I don't see it getting any better.

Don't just call your dealer- call Ford customer service.

PERIOD

If you cannot fix this, throw in the towel early, save yourself time, $, and several kicks to the balls...

I have not touched the transmission. I have no intentions of touching the transmission.

If I wanted a 400hp car I had to diagnose myself I'd have thrown together a 351W, dropped it in a Fox, and saved $30k. You want to work on a car for which you paid a ton of money, that's your prerogative. Personally, I bought this one so I could have the performance without having to do the dirty work.

If my few modifications caused the problem, yes- I'd get under it and figure out what went wrong. The failures have nothing to do with the modifications so it's a Ford issue. They can get it right or give me my money back.

To add to the "fix your car" crap you've been throwing... They replaced the transmission once, about to be twice, and will likely replace the flywheel, clutch, and all hydraulics. Easily $5k+ worth of stuff. Are you recommending I foot that bill?

Come off your high horse and accept that for $36k I shouldn't have to touch a thing.

THEY fixed the synchros. I'm not footing the bill for transmission swaps, clutch swaps, etc. I can fix a pinched wire. My 6yo can fix a pinched wire.

I refuse to perform the labor (or pay the costs) required to replace what needs to be replaced. If you can't accept that you're beating a dead horse with your insistence that I do it myself.

Would you have replaced the transmission in your own garage on your own dime when they did the synchros?

Why in the hell would someone fix their own vehicle when a known issue from the factory exists?

Go out to your money tree and pick me some while you're at it.

If ford wants to pay for the new transmission that was default from the factory, i will let them do it.

My car has no modifications and has 1000 miles on the clock. I'm not fixing ANYTHING myself. It's a brand new car.
