Hey Tanner. Have you got the cruise control working? I tried mine & with the clutch switch bypassed it still doesn't work.

Yes, for the upper switch I just connected the wires together, completing the circuit. It works fine.

Do you have your cruise control working yet? When I did mine I used a tie wrap to keep the clutch sensor depressed & my cruise still did not work. I have recently removed the sensor & connected the 2 wires but I have not tried the cruise since then.

Cruise won't work if you have a non lock up converter.

Thanks, I appreciate that! Most people, like myself, go to an automatic out of simple necessity. Honestly, I would rather focus only on steering a built and turbo'd car, than steering and shifting it as well.

Cool deal, glad it helped! Since you are N/A, you will definately need to carefully select your gearing and stall speed to try and equal the mechanical advantage offered by the ratios in your 5R.

You are welcome! I think it is something that I may venture into at my leasure. I'm getting quite a bit of external pressure from a few people to pull the trigger, not to mention the internal conflict in knowing that there is nothing more I'd rather do in my spare time. We'll see.
do you know of anyone on here thats done a 4r conversion on a 5r auto car....considering a full manual transbrake PA 4r70w with a lockup PI converter (custom build of course). should be able to just shut down everthing in the ecm. i don't care about cruise control and stuff...heck i've never used mine anyway.

I have done a swap from a 5R to a 4R. Mike @ Powerhouse figured out how to make the ecm think it is a manual ecm. I have been running it for over two years now and it works great. My cruise control does not work but sometimes I wish it did.

Yes I do have a lock up converter. I drive my car a lot on the street 15k plus a year usually plus lots of trips to the track. I drive her to the track as well let some air out of the DR's and let her rip, then air the tires up and drive home. It is great having a 10 second street car.

I'm not 100% but you should be able to just flash the PCM as a manual. You could then use the back-up light wiring and output speed sensor connectors, deleting the main connector, intermediate and turbine speed sensors.

Yeah, when I'm climbing a steep grade, the converter will unlock and kick the cruise off. If I accelerate excessively using the + button and the converter unlocks or the trans downshifts, I have to reset the cruise. You don't have to worry about that with a MVB.

So I guess I better hook up & test my lock up! I take it that the cruise will only work while the converter is locked up.

Thats right,it will work for one sec, then trip off as it is seeking, because of slipage in the converter.

This thread is really going to help me alot.
My tranny and convertor are being built right now and I just got the Optishift delivered last week.
My car is a manual (Shelby) so no existing auto tranny cooler.
What did you end up using for a tranny cooler?
Did you add a trans temp gauge?
Let me know next time you're in the Katy area...would love to have a look.

FWIW I used a Derale 13750 cooler/fan unit unit mounted where the EVAP crap used to be. The trans temp sensor is installed in the out line by the trans. This will give you the highest reading the trans is seeing.

Yes, been looking at those. Looks like that would definitely do the job.
When you say mounted where the evap crap used to be, I'm assuming you're talking the A/C evap in front of the radiator?
Did you yank that out for a purpose built racer?

I used a factory tranny cooler from an 05-08 mustang GT auto. Bolts right in!

Hadn't tackled this part of the plan so I assumed S197s had their tranny coolers integral to the radiator, so good news!
Thanks

No, mine is mounting in the rear where the EVAP stuff used to be. Kenne Bell's run hot and so does my car. I did not want to add another thing up front to increase the heat. The car is in storage right now but when I get home I will see if I have any pics that would show you what I mean.
