I know this isn't really Mustang Chit Chat, but I wasn't sure where else to post it.

I'm going to call my dealer tomorrow, but I'm just curious about something. I've been thinking about canceling my extended warranty with my local dealer. My regular warranty is up pretty soon and I have plans of doing some motor work which will make the extended warranty pretty much pointless. Now I've read that if the vehicle is not paid off yet the refund from the extended warranty will go to the remaining balance owed on the vehicle. My question is what if the loan is with a local bank and not with ford financial. Ford only arranged the loan for me, Ford didn't loan the money. I'm just wonder if the refund would go to me or the bank. Would help to get some money back for my future plans.

I did it about 3 years ago and they mailed me the check.
I ended up getting a check for like 670.

Thanks again all! After doing all this work to my 09, an extended warranty is kind of pointless...

edit: I guess I should discuss with the Finance Director then???

being an ex-F&I guy the 'warranty' word always makes me grind my teeth a little. It is actually insurance, that's all. Mechanical breakdown insurance. Nothing bad about it, unless you over pay, but still, only a manufacturer can warranty their product.

I had sold my Trailblazer and canceled the extended warranty. They sent me a check for $1100. On another vehicle though, they applied it to the principle as mentioned.

Yep. They are going to try hard as hell to convince you to keep it. Just walk in and say, "Look, my mind is made up, period. I would appreciate it if you would just cancel the extended warranty for me without all the usual BS of trying to talk me into keeping it. I've got other appointments I need to keep, so lets get this done as quickly as possible." If the guy still tries to hard sell you, look him in the eye and say, "I said my mind is made up! Do I need to call Ford Customer Service to get this simple matter taken care of?" By then, you will be all good to go!

It's not technically insurance either.

Not a fan of the Ford Finance guy at the dealership I bought from... i.e. the only way I was getting the 09 for 23,900.00 was to finance through Ford Credit... I said "ok, I'll just pay off the note tomorrow", he BS'd me and told me I couldn't do that for 3 months or 3 payments... So I called Ford Credit a few days later, they confirmed the BS that was given to me and I paid the car off.

I like pacettr though :)

The customer doesn't HAVE to make 3 payments, but it helps the dealer retain the finance money from FMCC. It is at least courteous, but if the dealer isn't courteous enough to explain that and ask it as a favor, sorry bout their luck.

You do however have to finance with FMCC to get the FMCC rebate, which was how your dealer got to 23900.
