hey I agree!!.. i know they will have thier problem tranny's though especially since this is the first run in this car.. just seems like there are more problem tranny's then good ones right now.. Im happy that there are some of these that are holding up to MONSTER hp and torque numbers.

You just hear about the problems because of internet forums. It would be a far stretch to think that even 1% of mustang owners are on this site, and less than 5% of the members are having any problems out of their transmissions. I really do hope that Ford takes care of the guys with the problems though.

you are 100% correct.. I dont do a search for "mt-82 working perfectly" I do a search for mt-82 problems.. because I want this fixed.. i would LOVE to be able to throw a blower on, make 600whp w/ it.. fact of the matter is, im scared shitless ot do it, because if the trans messes up again the car has to go back to the dealership to be covered under warranty. Its just very frustraiting is all when someone wants to put some power down but cant because of problems that may arise on an allready existing problem when the car (or SOME of the cars) are still mostly stock.

When i had my transmission TSB performed last week the service director said he had 5 mustangs in that previous week, and he has had several others come in. Call it what you will, but this is bumredneckiscrewmycousinintheass alabama.

My cousins boyfriends sister who works for ford said that she ran into a guy who read a thread on a web forum about a guy who discovered that the MT82 is actually controlled by a miniature gnome inside the gear box.

non-union, you get what you pay for.

You wanna come look at the UAW welds on the factory k-member of my '89 mustang ? They look like they were laid down by a half blind monkey with a caulk gun.

Sub-par Chinese quality control on the metallurgy of the gears and sub-assemblies would not surprise me in the least though. The Chinese just dont get the concept of quality control, its a cultural thing. Remember one of the tower cranes that came down in NYC about 3-4 years ago killing couple of people ? Chinese bearing failed due to poor metallurgy control.

If it comes down to it, then I'll end up going aftermarket. I love this car too damned much to let something like a transmission kill my love for it. Hell, most folks who buy these cars aren't really looking to mod them very much, if at all. They just drive them as they are off the show room floor. If it turns out even Joe and Jenny No Mods are having a lot of issues with this transmission, you can bet your ass there will be a lawsuit in the offing. People who pay $30k+ for cars don't tend to take well to material issues not being fixed. Especially drive train stuff.

sweet!! i got a call yesterday saying the tranny is torn apart, and they will be taking pics today to send to a Ford Engineer. Ford customer care will be calling me back Wed they said to give me an update. I would however REALLY like to get a new trans entirely instead of have this one rebuilt.

Good luck with that one.. Ford refused to give me a new one, and rebuilt mine. So far, so good.. No noise, and just a tad bit notchy. But, it's way better than what it was.

Those of you who had the notchy/grinding shifts was it intermittent or was it all the time that you could set your watch by it? After the fluid change it does in fact feel better, but the shifts are still notchy intermittently. I'm going to make another appointment and talk to the service guy about it.

I've had both types of fluid.. The transmission came with the thin/brown DCT fluid, that Ford is now switching into some vehicles. With the thin fluid, the transmission shifted decently, but, developed a horrible whine after about 1500 miles of normal driving. During tear down, the tech noted abnormal/accelerated wear.

After the rebuild, they put in the QS fluid (thicker). The trans is now quiet, and shifts pretty nice. If it's dead cold, it may be a little notchy, but, nothing serious.

See, i had grinding shifts in the cold and notchy all the time. They changed me to the QDC and the grinding cold shifts went away to a mild notch at first shift to second right at startup, and noticeable "catches" in 1-2 2-3 4-5 and sometimes 5-6. The other day was an 85* day though however and every shift was superb. I'm just wondering if i should bother taking it in or blow it off. What gets me is the car did not act this way brand new and neither does my friends new 2011. Thats the only inclination making me want to take it in. IF the damn thing would shift like this forever and ever amen i could deal with it. I just want some kind of assurance it will stay like this and not fail on me. Yea yea yea,i know thats what a warranty is for but i don't want to take all of my aftermarket crap off. :deadhorse:

I hear ya man.. I'm just as frustrated. I'm scared to do anything to the car, or drive it hard, because it feels so fragile! Mine came with QDC, and the shifts were great. But, I don't think it offers enough protection, as shown in the abnormal wear we found and the whining that it developed. A few others have complained of whining after the QDC switch, as well.

I have 700 miles so far with the QDC and no whining. That has been in 70*-80* alabama humid weather too... I dont know this is finicky...

Beat the piss out of it and let the warranty do it's thing. Unless there is sufficient reason to deny a claim there is no harm in driving the car as was meant.

What happens in 3yr/36k miles, does our cars resale value become nothing.........(for those who need/want to get rid of it for some reason). The mass market has to get word of this critical issue sooner or later.
