Connecting XCal2 to Innovate LC-1

Alright guys, I need to datalog some parameters along with A/F ratio. I know how to datalog, but I cannot figure out how to connect the XCal2 to the analog outs from the wideband. There are a few websites out there explaining that it needs to be done, like this one:

Is it still necessary to buy the 9 pin cable and cut the end off and splice it into the analog outs from the wideband?

Yes, you need the cable. You'll also need to select the right analog equation in Livelink which is LC1 and apply it to the channel the signal is coming in on. You configure that on the XCal...usually Channel 1 or Channel 2. Do it before you start datalogging or you'll just see raw voltage.

Thanks. Reading this guys post has me worried about grounding issues when I don't have the cable hooked up to the XCal.

Just run both grounds seperately to the same location. I have a terminal strip mounted under the dash that goes to a chasis ground under the hood...works like a champ.

I went through this years ago on my Lightning and then on my current GT. Make sure you pay close attention to how to ground, and how to measure the ground offset. Then make sure you use that measurement in your equation that you input into the LC1. Just to be clear, when I've done this, the equation is entered using the software on your laptop then uploaded to the LC1 - it is not done on the SCT.

If you run into trouble, send me a PM. I have a step by step on how to do it. It's not hard, it just needs to be done right.

And by the way, that's a really OLD post you are looking at on that forum. Do a search, and PontiacSteve has a complete write up on that forum on exactly how to setup your LC1, i.e. grounds, offset measurements, and programming the LC1.

FWIW, you can 'get by' without a connector by sticking bare wire ends into the proper XCAL connector pins. That's what I've done. A connector would be cleaner, but direct solid wire into the connector also works

Well, I've decided to skip the XCal2 altogether and replace it with this for datalogging.

It'll be here this Friday and I'm gonna sync it up with my iPad and see how it goes.

Hooking up my LM1 to my livewire was very easy. Firewire on one end and 1/8" stereo plug on the other. My ground offset is only .038 IIRC with making my own cable.

For those that are not getting similar readings from both devices either have bad connections AND OR have their formula is wrong in their device or livelink.

I have an autometer WB and could not figure out the formula. All math skills beyond counting cash were left at school. That formula shit might as well be in Russian.

I believe that wifi device only works with the same brand widebands. I almost bought it myself except I finally got my sct3 to work with my pc with the livewire software, just no WB gauge info.

Innovate replied to my inquiry and yes, the OT-2 only works with their WBs.

all I know is ever since I bought the lc-1 it never showed the right A/F. I just bought a new 02 sensor for it and re-cal everything and still off =-/.. I need someone here to fix it for me..haha

The engineers over at Innovate's forums go on and on about the LC-1 being grounded properly fixing almost all issues with an incorrect A/F being displayed.

Autometer kept giving me the same song and dance until I got fed up and sent the Cobalt W/B back to them under warranty. They sent me a new one with zero explanation on what was wrong with the other one. I wired it to the same spot and it worked perfect.

If it's not showing the right a/f ratio, chances are you do not have it calibrated correctly. You are measuring the ground offsets and using the right formula? If not, don't expect it to work properly.

ummm.. whats a ground offset? I just grounded what they wanted..haha.. did I miss something,?

ohh yea.. I re-calibrated soo many times.. Its funny though.. every time I ger a retuen I get closer to the right a/f..hahah.. at wot I'm about 14 which is still wrong.. before I was at 18..

I did the cloth with break clean on it and saw the 02 was bad.. so paid another 60+ and got a replacement and it still wrong.. haha..

someone put me out of my misery
