the CHE torque limiter was one of my first mods and it is worth every penny. It's a bar that basically connects the transmission to the chassis. Makes the shifts feel much firmer. After installing this, I promptly decided I wasn't going to spend money on an aftermarket shifter.

For those of you who have it, do you get weird clunking sometimes when you shift? My car did this weird clunk since the day I bought it (100% stock) and now it's just more pronounced.

Damn it now I need to buy that as well as my clutch and relo brackets!

As for when to shift I usually shift 300-400 rpm away from where the limiter is set.

I put my CHE limiters on about 3 months ago. Cake. Shifting is much easier from 1-2 gears. I had to adjust mine a few times. I dunno about that picture. The limiters may have not been tightened properly and when the driveline torqued it caused deflection on the bolt? Did he ever contact CHE and show them? See what they had to say about it?

Sometimes I'm scared I didn't set mine correctly. I hear more clunking since I got it, it's not super noticeable or anything, it's very faint. It's like the weird clunk you get sometimes going from 1st to 2nd, maybe driveshaft torquing? Anyway, mine became more pronounced and it's somewhat worrying.

I feel like CHE should offer an option with actual dampers instead of just stiff adjustable rods.

I've had my CHE limiters on for 5 months and doesn't make any noise but then again I also have poly urethane motor mounts. But I've seen that picture above before and I check mine every time I do an oil change. I didn't crank the limiters hard, just enough pre load.

This was an isolated event and never happened again my guess is incorrect torquing of the bolts, they got loose, got wiggly and snap! and of course it gets blamed on the limiters.

to the OP I would shift at 6500, doesn't matter what rear end gears you have if you have the stock tr3650 ratios (3.38-2.0-1.32-1.0-0.68) this is where you will end up at after each shift @ 6500
mr946p.png

the top row is 3.31 gears, the bottom row is 4.10 gears the only thing that changes is the mph and the force transmitted to the wheels.

if anyone is confused I'm answering the question "WHERE are the rpms when shifting OUT of..."

shift until you hit the rev limited in each gear. youll hear it go babapbabapbabap. Itll ensure your pushing out all the horses you can in each gear.

Seriously tho.. itd differentiates between cars...

When I shift from 1st to second its between 6400-6500. Again you have to find the spot comfortable to shift it.

lmao!!!! but seriously that is always fun when drifting around a corner BAPBAPBAPBAPBAPBAP!!! feel like im kent block lol

poly mounts and che limiters FTW. When im out messing around i shift at 6700. Hellsbells you should be able to raise your limiter yourself with sct. Remember your tb will start to close 400 rpms before your limiter according to fdjizm.

The only troubling part about that is the owner of the car tried to blame it on CHE... The only physical way that failure is possible, was from a poor/incorrect install. That's it.

I have a brand new aluminator block in my car, I run the CHE limiters and I'm not worried about it at all.

Gearing has little to do with shift points. He needs to be shifting based on his powerband. You want to shift right at the fall-off point of the curve. If you're revving to 6500 on stock manifold/cams, you're most likely not making power that far out. A dynograph will show you where to shift. Proper rear end gears will be dictated by the 1/4 mile, if you're concerned about a drag gear. You want to be at the top of 4th in a perfect world by the time you cross the finish. Tire size will come into play there as well. I trap 106 and am at 5500 or so. I really should run 4.30's instead of 4.10's. But on spray 4.30's might hurt me.

Look at your dynograph, or get one, that will show you what rpm to shift at.

I agree about looking at a dyno but I will have to disagree that you should shift where your power falls off, you should shift 300-400 rpm AFTER your power falls off so that you are in the torque band on your NEXT gear.

I can tell you from real life experience that shifting at 6500 and landing back in the sweet spot is better than shifting as soon as power drops at 5800-6000 rpm. It's pretty well know and it's a popular internet myth that you shouldn't shift past peak HP.

This.

Shifting at peak power is some sort of old school mythology or something. For the most part youre going to want to rev out as far as you can, the manufactures never set the rev limiters "too high", they usually set them too low.

I appreciate all of the responses. For some reason car feels better shifting at 5500 rpm. Kinda feels like its stiffer anything over that.

You're going nowhere slow shifting at 5500, the tr3650 is notchy by nature.

That's great to know. I usually get it up to 6000-6500 before shifting but it does feel notchy. Thought it was just me.
