I was wondering if anyone has the Western Motorsports Intake or at least had at one point. What's your opinion on it, is it worth getting an air ram style hood for? Also they no longer sell the whole kit, I emailed them and they responded by telling me there's about 50 pieces to this kit. I'm trying to see if they'll make an exception or mark up the price for a special order and haven't heard anything back yet.

I have never seen that set up for a Mustang GT? Not sure how much "Ram Air" effect you will get? I have seen something similar on F-bodies and GTOs... So guess it does work?

My .02 cents. I have installed JLT's Series 3 on both 05' & 06' GT's, both with excellent results. They require a tune, but very good and reasonable priced. I have one complete intake kit for sale if you're interested. YES Shameless Post, but I still have not been granted access to the "pearly gates" (AKA Classified section). LOL

For some reason I seem to remember some discussion on tuning issues. I believe they determined that the MAF was too close to the TB. Something about pressure waves from the blades opening and closing. Don't quote me on any of this, it's just what popped up in my fuzzy old brain.

If I remember it had mixed reviews. I think most concerns were the added expense of the hood plust painting, etc.
Pretty sure these fit under the stock hood. They supposedly get enough air just from the gap between the hood and grille. Doubt there would be significant improvement from feeding a hood scoop into it.
I always loved the look of the WMS intake and wondered why Ford still insisted on a 90° bend to the corner mounted air box. The 4th gen F-body intake setup made way more sense to me for an engine with a forward facing TB.
OP, if nobody chimes in with first hand experience, it would probably be wise to ask your tuner if they're willing to work with this intake before trying to piece one together.

They sell the filter and the air ram box still i just need a way to relocate the coolant tank. Unfortunately I can't find pics of it without the box so I can get somewhat of idea how they did it

Your brain has it right. I have dealt with Western Motorsports a fair bit and they are good people but there were issues with the MAF not receiving a clean signal with such a short path between the filter, the MAF, and the TB.

I was talked out of going with that intake when I got my car by a tuner that is now working for HP Tuners and is a pretty respected name. It was more of some weird tuning quirks rather than issues that would be potentially damaging to the powertrain. I elected to go with the Steeda 90mm intake instead at the time.

The JLT 3 with Brenspeed 91 octane tune was my very first mod. Night and day compared to stock. You'll love it. Just make sure everything is sealed tight so there's no unmetered air getting into the intake manifold, and be careful not to overtighten the band clamps so you don't distort the intake tube. Otherwise you could have issues as @jewc75 alluded to, but those could apply to any CAI and not just the JLT in particular.

Thank you both for the heads up. Glad to hear the JLT won't give me any trouble though, tired of this bone stock engine

That was my first thought just looking at it, that’s a short run from filter to TB with the MAF just crammed in the middle.

Definitely go with a more common/better known intake. I also have the JLT and no complaints out of it, it actually makes a pretty sweet intake noise!
