I have a 2005 GT. I want to use the M-9603-M463 Ford Racing Cold Air Intake on it. It is dis-continued and I can't find one anywhere. The V6 version of that CAI is the same except the tube between the throttle body and the CAI. What are some thoughts about just making an air intake tube that would work. There are plenty of universal air intake tube kits around. I am just a little concerned about losing performance by doing this. I would really prefer to use the Ford Racing part. I just like the way it looks. The factory tube on the car looks like it would be too long to use.

Put up a WTB thread in the classifieds section, someone probably has one sitting around.

I tried those places. RPM outlet sold the only one they had a week ago. The phone is disconnected at Ninosport, and not available from Freedom. As far as the Steeda I may go with that, but like the looks of the plastic one better. I could order the V6 plastic one and the Steeda one and use the tube from the Steeda one I guess. I could resell the Steeda one as a V6 kit and not lose quite as much money. And no Yahoo and Google were not broken.

Remember this is also the same as the Bullitt CAI with the difference in the FRPP logo unpainted. Look for those too on eBay/elsewhere

don't buy the v6 version and modify it, if you can't find the ford racing CAI, get a different brand. I have used both the Steeda and JLT.

The Airaid intakes IMO are far better quality that also include removable venturi inserts. When the inserts are not in place, this increases the diameter of the MAF housing tube from the stock 80mm to the larger 100mm diameter which provides more airflow/power when adding mods that require a tune re-flash. Otherwise, just leave the venturi insert in place if your mod upgrades don't require re-flashing the stock tune.

If you really want the Ford Racing CAI they came on the Bullitt & Shelby GT’s so used ones will be out there. Or you can go the V6 tuner route then get the Bullitt tube thru Ford (the route I went but there aren’t many left in the system....were 5 left when I got mine). The stock tube (80mm) won’t fit the FR Bullitt CAI (85mm) w/o heating it up & forcing it on.
1 more thing, if you get 1 & you have a SCT X3-4 tuner to access the Options list in the tune you can use the MAF calibration for the C&L Street CAI (83mm) until you can get it tuned as this is close enough to the FR Bullitt 85mm MAF so all will operate fine....been there, done that is why I’m Putting this info here.

So I go to a swap meet today looking for that Bullitt tube. I really didn't think I was going find it but you never know. Anyway I found a 3V Saleen tube and air cleaner lid. I am not going to use it, but I thought it was a good swap meet find.

FYI: There were 2 different Ford Racing CAI's. The Ford Racing intakes which came on the 2007-08 Shelby GT's had a 90mm billet MAF housing and were manufactured exclusively for Ford Racing by Steeda Autosports. It was also the very same CAI as the Steeda 90mm variant which is still in production for all 2005-09 Mustang GT models including Shelby GT and Bullitt. When the Bullitt Mustang arrived in 2008, Ford Racing came out with their own CAI design for the 2008-09 Bullitt models that featured a built-in 85mm MAF housing, rubber inlet tube and intake shield. At any rate, just to clarify once again, the Ford Racing CAI that came factory installed on the 2007-08 Shelby GT and 2008-09 Mustang/Bullitt were not one in the same!

Thanks for the clarification as I didn't make the distinction between the 2. Good catch!

Would that be the same CAI that was used on the 2006 GT-H?

Yes, the Ford Racing 90mm CAI (a.k.a. Steeda) was indeed used on the 319hp/330lbft Shelby GT and GT-H.

there were two listed earlier this week. NO, I won't search for them, you can...

Yes, its the very same CAI. The 2007-2008 Shelby GT was the production/retail version of the 2006 Shelby GT-H Hertz rent a car model.
