Why yes, let's take an inferior rear suspension setup from a inferior chassis and put it on a far more better handling car that does it with a SRA...

snakebit05, which road courses have you driven your Mustang on and what handling problems are you trying to resolve based on your experience that you think an '04 Cobra IRS would resolve? I agree the '03/'04 Cobra and its IRS was something special for that SN95 platform, but not really necessary on the new S197.

just a thought damn lol never said it was going to happen i know a few places had made an irs set up but wanted way to much for them just looking into options. i dont want my 05 to be like every other one on the road.

my other 05 handled really well with springs and aftermarket struts and that was it just wanted to know if anybody has done it. not really having any problems with the car. just would like to do something a lil out the box thats really all

Considering the s197 chassis was loosely based off the Lincoln ls & jaguar S Type. I would look to those two platforms first since they came with IRS.

i havent drove on any road courses but i swaped an 04 irs in a fox and yes i know foxes suck with how they handle but i really like the feel that an irs has so thats why ive kinda been looking at the possablity of it in an 05

If you want to be different put some Lambo doors on it! :roflmao::roflmao:

no lol hate when people rice out a mustang

true good point might not even be worth all the trouble but it would be different. not going to drop a ton of money into it just bored and thinking of ideas

If you are dead set on an IRS for your 05 and willing to plunk down the cash for it, there is a gentlemen that makes a version of the Klaus Arning IRS prototype 1965 Mustang IRS for the 05+ Mustangs. I think it was about $6800 and is extremely unproven in just about everything.

Otherwise, if handling is your goal and you want more confidence over mid corner bumps, a properly designed watts link will remove the side to side deflection caused by the PHB movement and the slopping stock bushings. I have a Fays2 Watts link on my car and absolutely LOVE it.

Really, they do? In stock trim or with $6k worth of suspension gear? You're speaking in generalizations and not making much sense. You sound like you're pushing sixteen.

:ftard: you realize that would be a downgrade, just cause it's independent rear suspension doesn't mean that it's better then a solid rear. matter of fact im willing to bet a dollar you could never get a 99-04 irs setup to handle as good as a 05+ rear end. stock vs stock of modded vs modded.

+1 to this post!

IRS for the s197 would take quite a bit of engineering and optimization. The 99-04 Cobra's IRS isn't optimized. Read any suspension book using similar mounting points for an IRS and live axle is counterproductive and only leads to a non-optimized suspension setup. That is why the 2015 Mustang will only be IRS.

I too have a watts link, but I have the Cortex one and I absolutely love it. If you aren't afraid to weld one tower bracket then its a piece of cake. Night and day difference with handling over bumps and a very noticable amount of side to side deflection removed. This is also with pretty much the factory rear controls arms (Roush anti-hop and GT500 LCA's, I am not the biggest proponent of poly in everything, rubber bonded bushings and high quality rod ends are much better IMO).

I think your idea of being different needs some adjustment, nobody will know you have IRS rolling down the street lol. And it's actually a downgrade for these cars IMO.

The best thing I ever did with my '03 Cobra was convert it to a solid axle with a torque arm and PHB.

ok well i was trying to be nice but yea all of you guys that had a asshole response can go fuck yourselves and again everybody that has giving good info thank you. sounds like doing a watts would get rid of some of the things that an irs does in fact do. i can see why you guys are proably sick of talking about an irs for the car since i know iam not the frist one to talk about it. iam really not stuck on anything for the car as of now just getting all my reserch ready so i can start building the car up.
