07 5 speed weird noise t idle. NEED HELP ASAP!!!

My 07 mustang 5 speed is making a weird noise coming in between my motor and transmission but doesn't seem to be affecting anything. Really annoying and need to fix it asap. I'll post a video of the noise and any help would be appreciated. It only does it at idle or when I let off the gas and rpm drops. Thanks.

It's completely random. Does it clutch in or out. Really iritating

Completely random. Just got the car. It's got a stage 2 clutch and an exhaust and bbk intake. Stock other than that

I also replaced the clutch. It ran and runs fine, no clutch issues. Mine was the fact that I used the oil pan from the 05(had to because of the sensor) but the dipstick from the 07. Replaced the dipstick with the one from my 05 and issue went away. I believe it had something to do with the venting of the motor.

Try this. pull the dipstick out about an inch and drive it around like normal. If the sound goes away it is what I described.

I wonder what the difference is between the 05-06 and 07 up pan and dipstick, besides the sensor on the pan.

perhaps. What I did because I didn't want to drive around with my dipstick hanging out (that is what she said) was I drilled two small holes in the underside of the oil fill cap to allow the motor to vent. I will take pics tonight when I get home.

I swapped a brand new 05 oil pan onto my 07 and reused my dipstick and had no issues at all.

I replaced mine because it had a small dent (OCD) and found a NOS oil pan. Just plugged the sensor hole with a 3/8 NPT plug.

I think mine had more to do with the fact that the motor I replaced the original with was from an 07 with an auto trans. I have seen it in other makes that their are slight differences in how those engines vent or use vacuum between manual and auto cars. 99.99% of the time it is not an issue. But as you can see here these motors can squeak or squeal for no logical reason.

I first tried replacing all the the idler pulleys, then the water pump, then I removed the front cover and inspected everything again. Last I was going to pull the trans and replace the clutch. But, I was at a gas station and checked my oil. I didn't seat the dipstick all the way down by accident. I didn't notice it. I went home and the noise stopped. So I retraced my steps and seen what I had done so came up with the theory that it was a venting/PCV/vacuum issue. So I ordered up a catch can but that didn't resolve it so I drilled holes and made two channels in the dipstick tube to try and increase venting between the tube and dipstick.

That was better but it still made the annoying noise ever so slightly. So I was sitting in my front yard having a beer or six and looked at my roof of the house. I noticed the vents looked a lot like the oil fill cap. I figured why not and drilled two small holes in the underside of the cap as it is two pieces and hollow inside. Which is not airtight so it could vent from there as well.

Guess what? that fixed it. I didn't even need the modified dipstick just the vent in the cap. I have yet to have an issue with the motor or the sound return. Go figure.

That is crazy how it made that noise. I'm gonna drill the hole in the cap when I get home and let you know if it returns. Everyone I talked to said throw out bearing but I wouldn't believe it. Thanks for all the help 05gtowner!!

I would check the flex plate next. Mine made noise differently described from the TSB and the noise went away after performing my own modification by using a washer.

Yeah I knew my throwout bearing was good as I had just replaced it and the entire clutch with the same brand that makes Ford's. I thought it was the pilot bearing or the separator plate between the trans and the engine but it turned out to be this. It has been a year and close to 15,000 miles and it still is quiet and runs great.
