Nope. A little moisture from the atmosphere may have got past the loose plugs but the pistons are aluminum alloy and won't rust.

whoops missed some replies.

rust must be from the plug bodies.

I had a 2004 Crown Victoria PI I had weird misfires until I replaced all 8 coil packs. The accel coils were actually cheaper than the motorcraft.

Glad you got your problem fixed! I was going to suggest a clogged fuel filter as a possible problem. I changed mine at 40K and was very surprised how much crap came out of the old one. It's something that is often overlooked. You need a little tool to release the filter but it is pretty easy to change.
