Chris I had 295/30 on thise wheels, was a bit short but fit. With more sidewall a 305 may fit ok. Personally for great dry traction and decent wet handling I would go for 275/40 pilot super sports if tire height isn't a concern, that size looked great on that wheel when I had it and only 1/2" shorter than stock. If you want the stock height I would go with a 285/40, the conti extreme dw is available in that size and still hooks pretty good I've read. The guy posting above about the dw has a coyote so I think that tire would hook pretty damn good for your car

Good call. 285/xx is as wide as I'd ever suggest for 10" wide wheels.

If you can't find the wheel width data for the specific tire make and model that you want to buy, you can usually look this information up under other tires for the size you're interested in. The measuring width and acceptable range of wheel widths for tire sizes is set by the Tire & Rim Association, and with only a few exceptions all tires conform to this.

FWIW, tires mounted on minimum-width wheels tend to be slightly "woozy" to drive on or give away some of your car's steering precision because the narrower wheel can't provide as much support to the tread.

I would not do 275/40/18, because it will be shorter then the 235/50/18 you have up front and imo, look dum.

I think the visual difference would be less than you fear. Ignoring wear (which brings the diameter of the existing 235/50 front tires down a bit), there's only about 1/4" difference in sidewall height, and the 275/40 would have only 1/4" more tire to fender gap than the 235/50 it replaced had.

I'm not telling OP to put together a 235/50 & 275/40 combination, only that if he did it wouldn't be as noticeable as the numbers may make it sound. I agree that 285/40 would be a better choice; 285/45's would make his 4.10's feel about like 3.90's, and let's not overlook the fact that his car has been lowered.

As tires go, the NT-555 is an ancient line and even Nitto has other street tires with better dry grip. What the NT-555 does have going for it here is that it is available in 285/40-18 . . . and that's about it.

Terlingua stickers? Is that what they are? j/k They signify a long-time fanship and membership since 1966, two exciting trips to Terlingua itself, innumerable events carrying the Terlingua banner, and one instance wherein Mr Shelby told me the "CS" in my GT/CS did not stand for "Carroll Shelby", but meant "Chicken Shit" (his actual words).

They're all on magnetic vinyl backing, to facilitate repositioning and transfer to another steel-based surface. At the same time I was taking first photos of new wheel/tire set, I had an impulse to see what they looked like lined up along the fender. I need about a dozen more. They might be hard to come by, since the official vendor has been closed down.

That's really cool, man! Chicken Shit. Priceless! After Caroll passed I got the smaller Terlingua stickers and put them on my front fenders where the GT used to be. Over the years I've collected all sorts of hats, keychains shirts and misc. The last time I was at Shelby in Vegas they were down to some window banners and a few ladies t-shirts. I hope they don't let such an iconic name/symbol slip away.

I would love to do a square 18" set up, but I definitely need fore meaty tires and contact. I have 245/45-19 on forgestar f14 9 inches wide in front and 275/40-19 on forgestar f14 10 inches in rear. Would love to go down to 18's and at least 10 inches wide. I like the TSW Sochi wheels, but they do not have 10 inch available. They do have the 10.5 inch wide wheel. will these fit in the front? stock suspension. stock brakes. will be lowering soon.

Why not go with a tried and true 18x10 setup with the Drifts or AMR's? I know they are common but at 150 per wheel with correct offset there is no guessing.

Their invo's only have a 200 tread wear rating..and cost more $. The nitto motivo's do indeed also have better traction... but are not available in a 285-40-18. I use motivo's in a 235-50-18 format for winter and esp rain. You can also get em in a 275-35-40 format..and also a 255-45-18 format. Superb rain tire, and excellent dry traction..they tell me they are coming out with yet more sizes.

The 555 is cheap to buy, last a long time..and plenty good enough for most applications..for a summer time dd tire. They are still a good bang for the $.

The michelin pilot sports are great too..but the price is beyond stupid. The Mt streets seem to 'go off' after 2-3 months and lose traction.

I respectfully disagree about the 'beyond stupid' part - that sort of description would be far more appropriate to Michelin's Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires ($400 and up).

To me, spending only $150 for a tire that its own mfr claims is an "extreme performance" tire, but only rates it 7 out of 10 on the tire's own page (and lower than at least one other of their own tires) is more than a little questionable.
