Hi there,

Recently, my gauges started to show random behavior, so I went ahead and replaced them all. It's still the same behavior...
But after a few days, my brake lights turned on, and stayed forever on...
I've checked the brake light switch near the pedals - the switch is ok, lights are on.
Removed brake light fuse - lights still on.
So I went to the car electrician to get the car checked.
He traced the culprit to SJB. We opened it, and one of the capacitors was fried.
The electrician ordered a new capacitor, and he hopes that he might fix it.

I'm not so optimistic, so as the title says, what to look for when getting new SJB? Is it a plug-and-play type of job?

Here is a pic of my current one with all numbers/codes

These are not generally repairable from a regular source. There are computer repair companies that offer repair services because they have the ability to make sure they function after the repair.

I don't know where you live, but I know this error from cars in Europe with blinker conversion at SJBs younger than MY 07. A HSD chip fries an can be changed, but the blinker conversion must be changed too, otherwise it will happen again.

Im in Lithuania, and you're right - i have blinker conversion, but could this be the issue? Or its just coincidence?

What is the right way to do blinker conversion to prevent this happening again?

The cheap blinker conversion was to take the wire for the 3rd brake light and split it to power the right and left brake light also, that current was too much for the HSD chip in the SJB and it blew up. I attached the repair documentation. for SJBs younger than 2007 cars.

I'm still waiting for repair parts to arrive, might able to fix it.

Anyway, if mine will be busted, what i should look for when buying from ebay? Exact part number match? Or just buy it from the car with same equipment/options?
What about PATS? Will i need to reprogram it? Any other issues?
