I took my 12 to the track for the first time. The car is all stock it is a California special and auto on the stock 19" Perillis. The DA was in the 1700-1800 all night. Everything I read said the like leaving at idle or just off idle on street tires with stock converter. On all the passes I did a burnout til I saw a little smoke in the side mirror. After my first pass I put the car on the scale. It was 3726 without me. (3/4 tank of gas) So race weight was 3916!! I had the car in OD and let it shift on its own.

1st pass.... I sat at idle I used the one foot approach. As the lights came down I took my foot off the brake and floored it. It was a 2.1x 60' and went 13.3x @ 107.xx

2nd pass... I sat at idle but this time used 2 feet. The results were the same 2.1x 60ft 13.3x @107.

3rd pass.... this time I brake torqued it til around 1000 rpms. I had the same results 2.1x 60ft and 13.3x @ 107mph.

4th pass... I figured screw it and tried leaving around 1700 rpms. The car spun and went a 13.4x @ 106 mph.

The first 3 passes the car barely spun if at all. If anything it felt a little lazy. I know several people have gone 12s stock. If leaving at idle and flooring it is the best approach and its an auto (leaving it in drive) its not my shifting. What else can I do to try to get it in the 12s next time out besides taking weight out of the car? I was going through the traps at the top of 3rd so the shift into 4th wasn't slowing me down. Also there was a stock 14 6spd there. It was running the same 13.3 @107. Any advise would be appreciated.

Sorry for the tittle my phone was freaking out as I was trying to write it!!

Oh yeah I forgot to put that. I shut off the TC but having my foot on the brake and holding the button til it said advacetrac off.

Your times aren't bad at all for a fully loaded 5.0 in that DA. Everything you say you did seems right. With no mods, leaving at idle works best, once you add a tune and or some suspension work they seem to like around 1500 or so. You say you turned everything off, so I assume you did the hold the brake, push the button for at least 10 seconds thing? Otherwise it is not all off. Did you air down your rear tires a little? I run about 26 cold at the track. I do a small burnout, and that is it. Thankfully my local track has very good prep, as even leaving at 1500 on stock Pirellis I do not spin. I would HIGHLY recommend a tune from Mike Rousch at MAP. He is the best auto tuner, and these autos with tunes are like totally different cars. On average, with just a tune you will gain .3-.4 and around 2 mph in the same DA.

Don't use the canned SCT tune. They've proven to not exactly be on the safe side. Get a custom tune. The only exhaust mods worth doing power wise are ditching the cats. So if you're not willing to do that just choose whatever axle back sounds best to you.

Well its good to know I'm on par with similar DA. I just have seen a lot of stock autos claiming 12.8ish stock. I was kind of disappointed thinking I was like .5 sec off pace. Yes, I did press the brake and hold for 10sec so everything was disabled. No, I didn't even think about lower my rear tires. They were probably mid 30s for psi.

I actually just picked up a used sct sf3. I haven't put it on yet though. I know there is a difference between custom tune & the pre-loaded ones, but does any one have results between the two? As far as suspension, I want to lower it and decide between the BMR and 2013 CJ springs. Am I better off doing some strange struts and shocks while I have them off doing the springs or am I better off doing control arms/ brackets with the stock shocks/ struts?

As far as exhaust goes.... I want to keep the cats so the car doesn't smell. So is it better to just do gt500 mufflers with everything else stock or leave stock mufflers and do a midpipe and over axles pipes?

Well I got the car used about 3 months ago with no manual in it.... I was under the impression. Just pressing the button it says TC off. Hitting the button twice it says advance trac On, Then hitting the brake and holding the button til it says advanve trac Off was completely disabling it. The last one is what I did. Is there something I am missing?? Or is how I did it correct??

Sorry I edited my post as it seemed you did it correctly. Just hold the button down while pressing the brakes for 7-10 seconds. Done. You did it correctly it sounds like.

Awesome, Thank you. That's the info I was looking for with the exhaust!!

What issues are there with the canned tunes?

Too much timing for one. Also there's no cam timing changes with the canned SCT tune.

No worries, you were just trying to help out. Like I said this car is still new to me and I'm not 100% sure on how all that works! So I just wanted to be sure what I did was correct.

Did you read my post? I also said use Mike...

Yeah I saw that. Sounds like everyone is on the same page with him. I know this is a better question for him, but does he do free updates if you change/ add mods? Just curious if I'm better off getting everything then having him do the tune. Also what does he charge?

The better auto tuners are tuneing the engine and also the trans. Usually 200+ for the big boy tunes. But with stock rear rubber your going to start getting loose at launch and 1-2 shift. Unless u have really good track prep

Free updates, $200 for the tune. Do the tune first, you will love it. Then toss on some GT500's.

I have great prep (thankfully), but launch shouldn't change much with the stock converter. My tracks so sticky I barely get a bark on the WOT 1-2 shift. On the street it will put down about 10-15 feet of rubber on a WOT 1-2 shift LOL. But my point is on a decent track he should be fine, plus Mike can tweak the shifts. Remember he went 12.1 on stock all season Pirellis before he went big/littles.
