Demon can run on race gas - then it runs at 840 hp with the tune for race
it will run 808 on pump

The GT500 will probably weigh a good bit more than a GT. And also, the new GT500 should have had a manual option.
I can just imagine what the Super Snake variant is going to cost when you figure the production GT500 model will likely have an MSRP of 70k and then an ADM of approx 15-25k pushing the total cost north of 90-95k. For the Super Snake version, I'd guess around 130-140k by the time it's all said and done which is indeed beyond ridiculous IMHO lol.The HP wars have gone beyond ridiculous, and I think only people who have a racing licence should be allowed to drive them. Otherwise they'll just be added to the long list of driving fails we see so often in YouTube with idiot drivers who just can't handle them.
I'm sure Ford could have eked out even more than 760hp but that's already enough to beat the Corvette ZR1's 755hp. No doubt there'll be a Super Snake version in the near future that'll put out ~850hp and outmuscle the 840hp Dodge Demon.
The gt350 weighs 3760 lbs, so I'm assuming the gt500 will weigh that +the weight of a blower and necessary equipment. So probably slightly under 4000 lbs. Still way better than a Dodge!Until we get complete specs, the current GT/GT350 is all we have to go on for weight, therefore I'm sure the upcoming GT500 will weigh a bit more than a GT, but IMO will still be lighter compared with the Hellcat/Demon. I also agree that the new GT500 should've included a manual option.
We're analog men in a digital world.I don't know what the deal is with these big power cars. On paper they have impressive numbers, but when you drive them they do not live up to the expectation.
Full disclosure...I've not driven GT500 of any vintage, but the parallel is still valid IMO....
In 2011 when the 5.0 came out I went straight to a dealer and drove one with a manual transmission and 3.55 gears as soon as they got one. My daily at the time was a stone stock 1998 Mustang GT coupe 5 speed with 3.73 gears and nothing else.
The '11 was buttery smooth and piled on speed. It was a really nice car. I was pretty sure I wanted one. But when I got in my trusty old 225hp '98 GT and left the dealership it felt way more powerful out of the hole all the way up to 60 mph. I know that it wasn't but the perception, the feel was it would eat the '11 alive.
I've never been able to definitively put my finger on why, but I think the nanny computer and chassis refinement has ruined to driving experience to a large degree. Back in the day, a hopped up 5.0 LX 5 speed was a handful. It's maybe 275-300 crank horsepower terrorized the streets. They were so fast, cops had to buy them as SSP cars to keep up with and chase them down. Nothing touched them.
Today, 700+ hp can go get coffee and cruise in comfort and safety. FUCK! 700+ hp should rape your senses and make you think you just saw the face of God because you should almost kill yourself, small children and animals every time you drive it. It should be so wild, Ralph Nader should just shit his pants and curl up in a fetal ball in fear of the unsafeness of the car. But it's all tea and crumpets with today's big power cars.
WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?
I agree with your point. Weird where things are going. Doesn't help that the mod motors have terrible low end torque (at least my 3v did), compared to a spiced up 5.0
Everything is too smooth and silky and quiet in the new cars, I guess maybe when I am older I may appreciate that but right now I kind of want to feel the road, feel the car vibrate hear the noise.. I guess it's a rawness that's missing that of course the general public doesn't care about. I've driven a few newer cars, some with double my HP but for some reason it wasn't a kick in the ass WOW experience. It was great don't get me wrong but then I get back into my 11 year old mustang and i'm like holy shit! Mutha fuckin race car!I don't know what the deal is with these big power cars. On paper they have impressive numbers, but when you drive them they do not live up to the expectation.

I guess I'm comparing my (not anymore) stock 3v vs a 68 Cougar I have. It's got AFR heads, roller lifters, roller rockers, decent cam, etc and it feels a bit stronger down low than the 3v did when I first got it. Maybe it's just the throttle response? Idk probably completely perception.I've owned a spiced up pushrod 5.0 ('95 GT with basic bolt ons, Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, ported stock heads, 3.73s) as well as my current '06 GT. The 3V Modular engine has way more low rpm torque than the pushrod 5.0 thanks to the VCT, pulls harder above 5000rpm, and is much smoother.
Like Bingo, I prefer the raw driving experience and I think an '05-'09 GT with a N/A 300-350rwhp just about nails it. A car shouldn't need double that amount of HP in order to be fun to drive.

ok Joe Walsh
IDK, My GT500 still feels like a brute after nearly 9 years of owing it
I'd say the improvements in body rigidity, better tolerances in motor/trans/suspension build and tuning, make the newer cars feel slower, but put them side by side and you're going to Gappelbees in a street race.
