Well, I took my 06 Mustang GT to the 1/8 mile strip. My car is stock except for UDP. I am running Nitto 450 250/17/50s. The car is manual.
1st couple of runs I was launching at 2500. I was getting massive wheel spin and hop. The times where as followed:
60' 2.9
1/8 mile 10.69
speed 74.81

After dropping the PSI to 25 and launching around idle my time improved.
60' 2.510
1/8 mile 9.667
speed 76.7

Next run was a little faster
60' 2.43
1/8 mile 9.487
speed 77.614

Would lCA help? I was thinking about new tires. This is my daily driver and I drive about 30 miles to work, so I think drag radials would be out. Would BFG TA KDWS be an okay choice. Thanks.

First--Welcome to the site!

Second--yeah those 60' times........ok so LCA's in conjunction with a good UCA will get rid of the wheel hop. Get the poly ends to keep the road noise under control, non adjustable LCA's and an adjustable UCA. Relocation brackets for the LCA's if your lowered. Is the car lowered? Try that first as no tire will hook if you have wheel hop.

If its completely stock, a good CAI and tune will wake it up alot.

Thanks for the reply. My car is not lowered. I guess UCA and LCA would help with the wheel hop. When I launched at idle I didn't notice wheel hop, but I was still spinning a little after launch. A CAI/Tune is also on my list.

Yes, welcome to S197Forum!!!

Back in the summer of 2005, I was running those same tires (Nitto 450 275/50-17) at the same track (Barona). My 60' times were in the 2.0 - 2.1 range, so I would expect you should be able to get down to that at least. My suspension was 100% stock, and all I had was a CAI at the time. My ETs were in the 8.90 range, but that was in the heat of summer too.

As far as DRs go, you could get a second set of rear wheels and just run the DRs at the track. I did that for a while as well, as do many people. The added traction is worth the effort.

I guess my practice is what I need. It might be my launch technique. When I was launching around 2500, I would floor it and get wheel hop and spin. My 60' times were 2.8-2.9. When I launched at idle my times droped. Next time I will try to launch at 2500, but I will try not to floor it.

Welcome to the site. I was cutting really great 2.4 to 2.6 60' times and as I haven't had much of an opportunity to practice I am sure that hasn't improved much. Keep going to the track and you will get better.

I think my biggest problem was anxiety and adrenline. Yesterday I practiced launching a couple times at a stop sign (no traffic around and did not go over speed limit). I think it was a near perfect launch. I reved to 2500 when I launched. Very little wheel spin. Chirped tires a little.

Good job getting out to the track. With more practice, your 60' times will improve. As suggested, a pair of DR's on cheap wheels, coupled with new LCA's, will help drop your times and minimize wheelhop.

I was cutting 2.1's on michellins. Don't side step the clutch. Have a controlled release and just keep practicing. You improved every run so keep it up.
