If you want power you have to pay for it. Nothing wrong with the 3V engines power wise. They have a very flat and broad torque curve and like to rev. Setup correctly they can run with pretty much anything you will find out on the street. Is it the latest and greatest? No but they are cheap to work on, plentiful and you can get good power out of them. Honestly for about 10-12K you can have a built car that will run hard all the time and not be finicky but very streetable and dead reliable with a solid track record.

....and what's wrong with going with a smaller blower like and M90? Way more "SAFE" power and you can usually get them for what.... $2500 - $3k for lightly used units?

The only thing about the M90 is the heat the thing generates. You can do some stuff about that but the design is what it is. Although for a stock motor I don't think there is a better unit for the price that is as safe even with the heat issues.

Exactly my point. Everyone gets all worked up about how "bad" the M90 is. Given the price point and how much more he would get for a fairly simply bolt on application.... how could you go wrong? He is hoping for 340 wheel with all this work and he could be over 360 wheel just with the basic stock M90. Add a pulley and even reasonable tune and he is right at the 400 mark he did not want to exceed.

I think skwerl knew what was up, but decided to just move on.

A centri blower like the Novi 1200SL has less issues with heat and a new tuner kit is under $3K.

Also true. I guess my whole point would be, there is such a glut of stuff that puts big power in a "safe" packaged blower these days.... why wouldn't you go blower? This may sound snooty (as a guy with a lowly M90 can sound), but I am not sure why you wouldn't put a blower on if you had $3k to spend. Cams are what... $800 all by themselves. Then add the tuner and you are halfway there with nowhere near the power capability.

I will say, good choice on the Hotrods though. They are a good sounding cam and are the best on a budget (NSR) from what little I know.

Better power gains can be had with other cams but hot rods sound good.

I wasn't look to break any dyno records. I just wanted something that would gain a little HP, sound bad ass and not buck and surge real bad at low RPM's. I think the Hot Rods fit all three well enough. This is going to be my row through gears and have some fun street car.

My next project will be a drag strip only car with decent power, big stall and a gearing setup that allows for 130 MPH to be reached without going into OD. My car right now with 4.10's hits redline in 4th at 117 MPH. But for the street that's fine.

link me, Ive been looking for a non intercooled tuner kit that I can build on and can't find anything under 4k

I'm not certain which vendors I can mention by name, but google "novi 1200 1001851-1" for the tuner kit and see if your favorite reseller will price match. There's the full kits with tuner and fuel management too, but I plan on working with Jeremy on the fuel pump and injectors.

BTW, for what it's worth, I know a blower is the best bang for the buck, but I wouldn't knock cams, especially if you don't get to the track and you just want some "street presence". Just my $0.02. :)

I have had hot rods for 3 months now. Agree with some hp and sound bad ass, but it does buck at low rpms if idling along, have to get rpms up a bit to smooth out. And yes I have 4.10 gears, and its tuned by brenspeed.

I went with a Paxton 1200 kit. The install was easy and great power.

Hot Rods don't have to buck. If you want that to go away get with a tuner who will review logs and revise the tune. It might take a few revisions but it's worth it.

It's always more fun when nobody expects your car to be quick.

Agreed and I should have thought this one out better. My baby looks bad add, but....

In my search of input on Nitrous, came across this thread....
IT feels worse, when people laugh at me. They think I am messing with them and lying to them...

My car gets called a GT500, Shelby, and SAAAAaaa-LEEN....
