You think my current flex plate will work? I will be using the cobra rear flange

I think that depends what bolt pattern your convertor will have, the OEM 10 bolt vs 4 bolt. If they are in fact reusing your old convertor front plate I don't see why it wouldn't work. Maybe an issue with the pump clearance . depth? I believe you need about .110 - .130 pump clearance.

The only difference is that Lentech blocks the torque converter clutch valve in nonlockup. One less shaft to break. Make sure you have a 300m stub shaft in yours when built.

Yoke is about the twice the money for a good one and most people will say they are stronger. I run the flange with 1330 joints and haven't broke it yet and been 1.37 60'

Was just asking because I believe the measurement is a little different....but I am not positive.

Got it, thanks.

Not sure.

Billy does your Lentech shift immediately when you shift it or is there a delay? Have you been happy with it over all? Did you have to get an external temp gauge or did your controller allow the temp info to remain active @ the OBD II port?
It shifts fast, no delay here. I love the trans and I did have to get an external as all trans controls are of in my pcm.

I've talked to Freddy over at FB Performance several times over the past several days, he's very knowledgeable and a super nice guy. He's recommending a lockup 4r70w with MVB and trans-brake, 300m direct drum, 2.84 first gear tranny with a 10" multi-disk full race convertor. That and all the parts needed for the swap including the shifter come out to about $6,000. Man I spent more than that on my 5r55s last year! I think I'm going to go that route, its just a matter of timing. The swap looks pretty easy as far as bolting everything up, its the wiring that's a bit intimidating, but I ran a car audio shop several years ago, I can handle it! They have an awesome tech page in their site for this swap http://www.fbperformance.com/Technical-Advice-Blog

I see a 4r70w in my future.. then I can turn up the boost and have some fun!

Has anyone come across any instances of the converters burning up,while the transbrake is engaged?

I run a lockup AVB with an external control module (they are not $900, and are easy to 'program', or use their stock settings). The controller lets you disable lockup so that locks only in/after a certain gear and rpm range and other conditions. Mine locks only in overdrive on the highway after a certain speed or rpm, and I turn off o/d drive at the track using a switch.
+1 on using the hardened input shaft; my lentech POS broke at around 500 hp, in their "good to 1000 hp" trans.
I had a custom driveshaft made for my 4r, using a larger yoke at the trans and the flat 4-bolt cobra pinion flange at the rear end.

Just got done last Sunday getting my 4r70 installed. Bought the package from Fred at FB. Everything was there from start to finish and it all fit without any issues. Very easy guy to deal with and you'll be much happier with the MVB with the lock up if you cruise the car on the freeway for long rides. I don't know about longevity but I spent a year researching all of this and I seen that some guys that broke the Len tech's, they installed an FB valve body in those. Don't worry about the wiring it comes with a very easy diagram to understand and Fred is always a phone call away. Mine is going to the dyno next week and hopefully to the track in the next month. We'll see what she does!

If you sit on the trans brake for 30 seconds you will toast it as it would with any transmission. Trans brakes generate a ton of heat in the converter. Never heard of anyone junking a converter because of a trans brake.

Thanks Mike, the FB trans controller is $250, it controls lock up only though, IDK about the AVB, FB says "it will never hold up to the kind of power I want to throw at it". It will engage and disengage LU as programmed, as needed. FB told me they don't usually have any issues with the OEM input shaft, they upgrade the intermediate shaft supposedly but not the input shaft. I'll definitely do the upgrade though, no sense taking chances now! IS your DS aluminum or steel?

Awesome, thanks for the good feedback! Good luck with yours!

Yes, I had a brake on the c4 I had in my fox body years ago, you could almost watch the trans temp gauge climb soon as you engage it!

Driveshaft is aluminum.
And my bad, it was the intermediate/stub shaft that you really need to upgrade.

I too talked to FB, and I wanted an AVB, which len offered. I've had no issues with the avb so far, so that's still holding up. But yes, upgrade the intermediate shaft at the very least.

Okay thanks, It's amazing how you can talk to two very reputable companies and they both recommend the exact opposite of each other! Hard for people like me without a lot of internal transmission knowledge to decipher. I wanted AVB too but FB talked be out of it, as they don't offer it at all. I know lentech does and they don't seem to have issues with it.
