5.4 3v Motor

I was thinking about picking up a 5.4 3v shortblock from a friend of mine, and was thinking about the different routes i could go. Who makes a good stroker kit for the 5.4's? What kind of power could i make with a good set of cams, and machine ported heads N/A? But then, i was kinda thinking, turbo, or blower route etc..... Any input would be great!

Hmm...I don't know the answers to some of your questions but a 3.4L Whipple would be NICE! Where'd your friend get the shortblock...?

Stroking the 5.4L is a BAD Idea.. It has a very long stroke already and they have clearance issues with the webbing around the mains from what I have been told when looking at build options.

He got it out of a new f-150, it has 20,000 miles on it. What about just forging it, and throwing alot of juice on it?

I think I know where you want to go lol. I'd check the stats of the GT500 engine as far as heads, cams, bottom end, etc. and then do what you think is best to make a strong motor capable of plenty of power. The difference between that engine and the GT500 engine is not too much...I can't remember what it is, but if you do it right you can have a built GT500 motor

Paschal performance makes a stroker kit for the 5.4 along with forged internals I believe. As far as the difference between the gt500 and the three valves there is going to be one small problem......That would be the intake. I believe the gt500 will be a bit narrower than the 3 valve due to the DOHC on the gt500. I looked into doing this when I worked at texas hot rods and we kept running into the intake problem and I couldn't see paying 3k for MMR's intake and hogue was just about as expensive so it didn't seem worth the gains to me......Deeper pockets may have different opinions though.

there are a couple people making adapter plates now to swap a 3v intake onto a 5.4 motor, i cant think of who though. someone will know.

that i do not know im sure if they can make the 3.4 fit on a gt they can do it the other way ...... but mike did a turbo setup for the 5.4 3v ( swapped out a 6er to this ) they did a write up on it somewhere i dont remember which site though .....

I thought about building a 5.4L engine, until I found out that the stock aluminum 4.6L block is good up over 1000 horsepower. I'd rather save the weight and size and stick with the stock block, accessories, etc., especially considering the state of the 5.4 intake aftermarket. Really the only economically feasible option is to buy a Reichard Racing intake adapter and use the stock 4.6L intake, which might defeat the whole purpose of building a bigger engine to begin with.

That said, I have an iron 5.4L block for sale, if anyone wants it. Cleaned, honed, ready to rock. I also have a forged 5.4L crank for sale.
