I'll be running one next year but it'll be paired with a coyote and a modded stock 12 harness and ecm. The trans cases are the same. It's the wiring and internals that are different between the cars and trucks. V6 mustang and 2x4 trucks get the lighter duty version. 5 clutch packs for a gear vs the V8 mustang and the 4x4 that get 6 clutch packs per gear. But you can put the upgraded guts into the lighter trans

Good info, thanks!

Without a doubt, these transmissions are also not as tough as forums lead you to believe. At 700rwhp, Im sure they are great but at these power levels you are better with what you have. I dont scroll the forums and everybodies posts but why is Beefcake ditching the 6speed auto ? Is it really for the transbrake or are there more underlying reasons.

Billy, lemme use your Lentech for a few passes down the 1/4 and I will loan you my 6 speed. Win win for everybody

The reason for the swap was for the brake, the weight, and for going after some mid 7's at some point. Plus heads up racing.

These trans are imo the best "factory trans" you can buy from Ford.

What other auto's can you upgrade the clutches in and go run mid 8's.

My trans when I sold it probably had about 400 passes on it or better. In a light enough package, I have no doubt this trans can make a 7 second pass if that is the goal.

Mid 7s ? Damn that a huge step up from low 8s. I agree the Trans is prob the best factory trans and so far the coyote platform has proven to be one of the best Ford platforms ever, but getting both the best trans and best platform to hold together and stay together has proven to be a different accomplishment all together.

I was shocked at the weight of those things when helping a friend install last week. Heavier than a TR6060 but much easier to stab into place.

Cant wait to read what 2014 Race season brings, lots of heavy hitters doing big things and new comers as well.

Good luck, you willing to share or have you shared what kind of changes ?

for "competition" we will be slowing the car down with a smaller s/c. for coyote modified.

Bigger s/c's in the works as well

Scroll down, it's under ford transmissions. Second from the bottom, just above Chrysler.

Edit. Beat me too it.

Hi Robert,

We have a controller to control the 6R80 but unfortunately it is not
presently released to the Aftermarket. We do support that transmission
for industrial/OE customers. Can you tell me a little more about your
project?

Hopefully something can be worked out.

Give him the whole story Robert. The 05-10 auto tranny sucks and guys have to use 4R70's. We want 6 speeds!

Brian, I did! Lol

He said:
"I don't think we have a solution for you at this time, but we may in
the future. It sounds like a really nice project. I will shoot you an
email if anything changes."

I'm ASSuming its a license/contract issue, since he said they can control a 6r for industrial/OE customers.. :chainsaw:

My question then is, who are those customers? :thumb2:

I emailed him and his response was that it is not ready for the aftermarket yet because it is not easy to tune.

The biggest problem is the torque-management control / input that is part of the engine controls. Piggybacks have an issue telling the engine to "back off" in between shifts for a millisecond so the trans can unload to shift.

I would be just as happy with a built 6R80 that was paddleshifted!

I'm curious if the PCS controller has an output that tells the ECU to cut power, or if it relies solely on the ECU.

If it has an output, I don't see that being too difficult to work with.
