you will need the longer bolts found in any v8 ford equipped with 4r70 or 6r80. all six
if I leave it in drive, mine is wondering around upshifting downshifting back and forth. havent figured it out but itll have to wait now as I've grounded my car for the rest of the year to freshen my motor and wire tuck, and have found a way to use a whipple 2.9 on my 3v with a gt450 manifold, NOT THE R SPEC, and keep my 10 rib from my 2.3. gonna do some top end work , yada yada yada,,, heres a video of whats going on with the shifting. this is in drive to 95 or so , doesnt do this if I use select shift.I don't know of anyone.
What issues are you having with Quick 6 that you and Karl can't fix?
Welcome to S197 forum. I will try to answer what I can.
The which year to use question has some variables. You must use a 6R80 out of a model year 2011 or newer. I am pretty sure the most up to date version of the lead frame and shift solenoids came out in 2013 (contact Baumann to confirm that this matters). Don't use a 6r80 out of any V6(I am pretty sure the bolt pattern is different than your 4.6). An F150 6R80 won't have the correct shift lever. The correct part number is in the thread and it is no big deal to change. I have also heard that the F150 6R80's come with an addition clutch in some clutch packs which would theoretically make the trans stronger. However, I wouldn't make that deciding factor on an F150 6R80 over a Mustang 6r80. If you need to make the 6r80 stronger than stock, you would be rebuilding it with different clutches from Exedy.
It doesn't matter if the donor vehicle has select a shift. Manual shifting is a function of Quick 6, not a specific year 6R80.
You will need a drive shaft, cross member and rear transmission mount from a 2011-2014 Mustang. Before you buy the F150 transmission, make sure the output flange matches the drive shaft flange (4 bolts). I believe the 2012 2WD F150 6R80 is the same over all length as the Mustang 6R80.
I don't have first hand knowledge about the shift cable bracket for the F150 transmission. I know there is an option out there and I thought it was in this thread.
...Now the lead frame and shift solenoids, I read earlier in this thread about 2013 having the newest versions. How important is this? Is it worth passing up a good deal on a low mileage 6r80 out of a 2012 f150 5.0 2wd?
Thanks again for the help.
It would be best to call Baumann (US Shift) and ask.
If you have a desire to use the transbrake feature, while you are on the phone with them, ask about the valve body mod. I was speaking to Karl Baumann (via email) about mine and he made mention of a mod to the valve body to improve the transbrake. Since I had no time to remove the valve body on my 6R80, I did not ask him for specifics. In hindsight, I wish I had asked.
I am sorry but I can't really answer this question. The 2wd version has a tail shaft housing because a driveshaft bolts to the output shaft. The 4wd version bolts to the transfer case. On ebay, you can usually see pictures of these transmissions out of the truck. As for the output shaft, I just don't know if they are different but my guess is they are. Get the 2wd version and save yourself the grief.... also what's the diff from the 2wd or the 4wd, they look the same same to me, one would just bolt up to the transfer case right for 4wd? Would I maybe need the 2wd flange to transfer over to the trans out of the 4x4?
I ask because the 4x4 trans is $300 locally where the 2wd is $500.. lol silly I know.
I guess I'll wait and see if anyone else chimes in who may know about any difference from yr to yr, otherwise tmrw I'm gonna jump on this 2012 2wd trans, also what's the diff from the 2wd or the 4wd, they look the same same to me, one would just bolt up to the transfer case right for 4wd? what youre hearing is the car upshifting and then downshifting then upshifting again.I don't know what I am hearing in the video but if you want to post (or send) a datalog, I am willing to look at it. Maybe we will see something that will help.
I have not, we have it pretty good right now for cruising. I loaded the tune I built for my son's car and changed the HP settings and gear ratio. I may give him a shout though if I don't like the wot.@05stroker - Billy did you find a tuner?
have you tried Lund? I know he did a lot of 6r80 swaps into GT500s over the last couple of years with the Power by the Hour kits
Do you find the shifting to be consistent at WOT? My Quick 4 shifts over a wider RPM range than I'd like at WOT, it's set to 6800rpm but it often shifts out over 7000rpm. I was thinking about changing the traction control feature to a more aggressive setting to speed up the shift reaction. One time it didn't shift until 8000rpm.I have not, we have it pretty good right now for cruising. I loaded the tune I built for my son's car and changed the HP settings and gear ratio. I used a tach adapter, can't comment much on WOT, I've only put 10 miles on my car since the swap and the kids car has yet to WOT.Do you find the shifting to be consistent at WOT? Where are you getting your tach signal from?
I used the Autometer tach adapter, I get my data on my runs from my ProMax nitrous controller. I assume what I'm seeing is accurate, but sometimes it seems it shifts out under 6000, and on my last set of runs I had this weird RPM dip/spike on the graph so who knows to be honest.I used a tach adapter, can't comment much on WOT, I've only put 10 miles on my car since the swap and the kids car has yet to WOT.
