Inch into the water box in 1st gear. The starter will flag you into the box and close their fist when you are in the water. STOP. They will make a 2 hand wipe action oking you to spin the tires for a breif time to just get the tires wet. When he does that, just bring the reves to about 3k-4k rpms and let the tire spins for 4-5 rotations.
The starter will then wave you forward a few inches to get you out of the water. Once you are clear, he will close his fist again, signaling to stop. At that time, put the car in 2nd gear. Once the cars ahead of you are clear, he will give you a thumbs-up to do your burnout.
Without moving the car forward, rev the car to 6k and dump the clutch. As quickly as you can, as you release the clutch, move your left foot from the clutch pedal to the brake and press the brake slightly. You want to apply the brake just enough to stop the car from rolling, but not so hard that you stop the back tires from spinning. That will take some trial and error to figure out.
You want to keep the revs as high as possible so your wheel speed is as close to 60 mph as possible. Try not to bounce off the rev limiter. It is not a deal breaker, but the pausing in engine power makes it hard to keep the wheels spinning.
Keep the wheels spinning until you see some nice white smoke in your mirrors, let the brake go and the car will start to move foward. As soon as the car starts to roll forward, let off the gas so the tires start to hook, step on the clutch so you don't stall, then put the car back in 1st and start to move forward to the line. That will keep the tires hot and sticky while stopping you from rolling back into the water.
If you want, I will ask the guys at the track to let me give you a quick demo too. I do mine in 3rd gear, but I have 4.56 gears. If you try it in 3rd with the stock R&P you will prob stall. Once you get the idea, you can always try it.
