Sounds like you're a spreadsheet guy like myself. I love doing cost analysis and macros with excel.

But I digress...

I think you mentioned this earlier, that you'd rather not use MMR. It seems to me that MMR has a pretty poor reputation in this neck of the woods; anybody know why?

Members have been screwed over by them. It happens elsewhere but the reports get edited. This forum doesn't engage in vendor protection like the others do. On other forums a shop can buy a reputation by being a vendor and having bad press deleted.

Do some searching and see what happened.

As far as their components, or their reputation as a component vendor, how is that?

From what I've gathered their problems are from their short block assemblies and up, but at a component level I'm not sure. I would think bad engines and short blocks are a sign of either bad machining, bad components, or both.

Anyone been burned by MMR on a part or something like that?

Naw, dude. You're golden, go ahead and send them your money. They will treat you great because they have such a renowned reputation for exceptional customer service.

FWIW, modmax sells reconditioned cobra forged crankshafts with the appropriate sized rod and main bearings for $7xx. They are king bearings IIRC. They are also a diamond and cp piston dealer. I am also running a set of modmax racing H-beam rods that come with arp 2000 rod bolts. If you are sure on running arp main and head studs, check out Titan Motorsports on ebay, they have the best prices I have seen anywhere.

In the past i ordered from MMR and had zero issues. I never even considered them when i was thinking about buying a built shortblock. Im glad i built my own. I don't know why so many people are afraid to build their own. It's hard to do something wrong.

As long as the machining is done well and the components are good I agree. The instructions are pretty straight forward.

I will try to find the ARP cam phaser bolt part numbers... otherwise OEM is TTY one time use.

For the crank I used ARP bolt that actually cross referenced off a mini cooper cam bolt or sum shit. This would work for stock or Innovators West balancer

I'm fairly certain I have the cam phaser and crank ARP numbers on that list.

50k dollars or more, complete return style fuel system, custom cooling set up, brakes, t-56 or better transmission, dual disk clutch, built rear end, suspension, proper tires, custom drive shaft, a huge turbo or F1A procharger, a cage, Lito, a better engine builder then an inexperienced college student, and 6lb 8oz baby Jesus riding shotgun. Nothing less then this is will work or even be plausible to call a "safe, reliable", 1khp daily driver.

You forgot 8 inch shorty antennae.

Kids these days...

^^^Really people? Next time I think you guys are asking something stupid lets be sure to give you shit. READ the post.. Never said he wanted to run 1000hp. The OP is ACTUALLY building a motor..not just writing a check so fuckoff. Have you built one of these or are you just being idiots? I suppose I answered my own question. Take your forever slow v6 go somewhere else..

Op Wanted to build a solid motor that had potential down the road. Also guy is more intelligent than all of you put together (have met him). If we were all born with your ultimate wisdom and experience then would be no need for this forum would there.. Nothing useful to add.. then gtfo this post newbs... I am sure all your engine building experience is needed somewhere else :fu: so go find a corner somewhere and you can swap turns shoving those shorty antennas up your asses which I am sure you will enjoy.. fucktards these days..

As for the OP, I took the day off and will swing by the machine shop to see what their schedule is looking like. They have been building crazy power motors for 30 years and do have experience in modulars (did my machining) so that is a major plus. I still say you do the assembly tho.. you will learn a lot and it is not that hard. Plus that will allow you to check all the clearances for yourself to be sure. No matter how good a shop is everyone is capable of making mistakes..

I appreciate the kind words hehehe. I really appreciate you swinging by the shop as well.

The plan was to assemble the engine myself, just because it seems like a pretty straightforward operation, definitely no more complicated the a rear end, just longer. I was mulling the idea over of getting the engine blueprinted though, and doesn't that usually entail that whoever does the blueprint also does assembly?

They are just specs and measurements/clearances so you can easily do that yourself

Interesting... I'll have to research the process some and see what it takes. I don't have much in the way of precision measurement tools, but I do have a friend/former coworker that has just about every automotive tool I can imagine, plus some more.

Yea... I was joking around. I've tried to be helpful visa vi past posts on this thread. Maybe I haven't been helpful, I don't know. There was certainly no reason to get personal. My post was used to diffuse the post prior to mine, not to exacerbate the ensuing internet-rage.

I at least tried to offer my $.02 on the actual topic.

As for you assuming what I have and haven't done, I'd doubt that you've touched half of the shit I have. I'm a marine engineer, and sail with 60,000hp diesel plants bigger than you can imagine. But go ahead, make assumptions...

I checked with Mod Max and they confirmed this. I'm going to check in on Titan motorsports as well.

I'd love to build my own shortblock too and when it comes down to it, it seems like the Rods with ARP bolts are where the engine gets a bump in "Capability" terms. It seems like any engine that is rated for 1000hp(well 800ish wheels) seems to have Manley H beams with ARP 2000 bolts and forged crank. When you see engines go above that mark I've noticed Oliver or Manley billet I's being used. Can't really tell if there is a difference in pistons or not.

I'd be looking to spend the extra 700 on billet I beams when building the engine if you want to build it right for max power.

I used the arp online catalog, then went to ebay and searched the part numbers. Titan showed up with the best prices. Hope it helps
