Hey all, I'd like to add the Cali Special/Boss rear valence to my '14. I bumped a tree so the bumper cover is coming off anyway. A friend of mine who runs a BS S2000 goes "you know that diffuser bumps you out of stock right?" ...well yes, but this is just a lower valence, that I'll concede is trying to look like a diffuser.

A. Accessories, gauges, indicators, lights and other appearance, comfort and convenience modifications which have no effect on performance and/or handling and do not materially reduce the weight of the car are permitted.

On the OEM parts list it is listed simply as a "lower cover". I would argue that because the cover is not manufactured or mounted in such a way as to be functional "aero" that it is legal for "stock[street]" classification. It's simply a trim piece.

...but this is my first season on the autocross scene so I'd like to hear from some more experienced folks.

I know my local club won't give a crap, but I would like to do some regional/tour events next season so I want to play by the rules.

If you're going to nationals, someone may be a d!ck and say something. Unless you've got the most uptight club around, I don't think there would be a problem locally

If someone cares enough to protest that, then you are doing something right and kicking somebody's butt. :)

A. Accessories, gauges, indicators, lights and other appearance, com
fort
and convenience modifications which have no effect on perfor

mance
and/or handling and do not materially reduce the weight of
the car are permitted. This does not allow driver’s seat substitutions,
or the removal of “tow hooks” or “tie-down loops”. Delayed shutdown
devices such as the “Turbo Timer,” which perform no function while
the car is in motion, are permitted. This does permit the installation of
an additional mirror (e.g., Wink®), but does not allow the removal of
the original mirror. “Grounding kits” specifically designed to support

sound systems are permitted but may serve no other purpose.

Also, the rear fasica is a dealer add item to any Mustang (i.e. you could potentiall buy any Mustang off the lot with this already installed, not having to be a GT/CS, Boss or GT500) http://accessories.ford.com/vehicles/mustang/2014/exterior/body-kits.html

I think you are completely fine. Unless someone can prove that the rear diffuser style rear fasicas provide some performance edge on an autocross course. Look at the Tiger Racing Boss 302S (before Justin Bell wrecked it) - they ran the stock GT rear fasica while every single other Boss 302S in WC ran the GT/CS/Boss/GT500 rear diffuser fasica. If there was an advantage to running the other fasica, why did they not change to it?

Dealer add items are not legal in most SCCA classes. If you plan to run tours in FS, don't do it unless you're prepared to get dsq'd. It just takes one jerk. Now if you want to do a full cali special conversion, that is actually legal. But you have to go all the way.

'All the way". Does that include the multi-colored seats and interior panels? Decal stripes? Front fenders with no badge-mounting holes?

So, are you saying that if it was aftermarket (yet still non functional) it would be OK, but because its an OEM item it is not? I need to review the rules PDF again as I did not see that.

Most of my events are local club stuff, so of course it doesn't matter there. I have a friend that wants me to join in on some New England Reigon stuff at Devens and I don't want to hinder myself.

...may just have to start collecting parts for an STX/U build (ESP someday but I'm still a beginner)

Yes you're correct, and that's the SCCA...New England huh? I'm in Connecticut for training for two weeks...I was thinking of making the trip up to Massachusetts Sunday for your solo event.

Yeah, Mainer here. I haven't done one yet, I'm a commercial mariner so I miss a lot of events. The only one I could make this year is the Boston BMWCCA one on Oct 13, but its the same day as our local Maine Club's final event for the season.
