Anyone run a belt driven fuel pump? Or know about the pros and cons of these?

They make one for our car that supports up to 3600 HP gas, 1800 HP methanol for like, a little more than 400 bucks...

I'm doing research to see if this alternative is a better/cheaper way to go vs the JPC triple pump setup.

I'll be running run with my new setup. I'm going with an aeromotive or magnafuel since I run e85 and I'll be making ~1300hp. Which pump are you looking into?

You would need a fuel cell to run it though, because it is gravity feed. Or, a surge tank up front. It depends on the power you plan to make and the fuel you will be using whether it would be the right move for you or not.

Yea, the aeromotive one is the pump I have been looking into. A fuel cell wouldn't be a problem...a friend locally does GREAT work, and could hook me up with that. Although, I think I would be more interested in the surge tank idea...

I will be making 800-1000, and will be using E85.

A local shop in my area has started using these style pumps on their big hp turbo cars. They use the electric in tank pump to prime the system.

For the 800-1000hp you are looking for I would just run an electric pump. I had a belt drive pump on my low 8 second car and it worked well with a cell in the back of the car. Just had to make sure to never run low on fuel, if you run out you will lose the prime and it will be a pain in the ass to get it running again. I had an Aeromotive pump on mine. But like I said for only 800-1000hp I would run an electric, its easier.

Yeah, alot of guys with rear mounted fuel cells will run a cable drive setup and run the pump in the back by the fuel cell.

I have only seen them on all out drag cars with carbs.

how much power are you going for? there are bolt in feul systems for our cars that can support over 1500hp on gas. I think aeromotive has a drop in setup that can feed more than that.

as long as your alternator isin't underdriven to much you should be absolutely fine as far as power supply

also if you are still feul injected make sure you take into account what kind of fuel pressure the belt driven pump can support. there are a lot of pumps out there advertising 1000+hp, but that is at lower psi for carbs. not for the 40psi our fuel systems need to work right.

All the big name brands have efi belt drive pumps now. Aeromotive, Magnafuel, Weldon, Waterman, etc.

What's the point in a belt-driven pump on anything but a dedicated race car? There are EFI electric pumps that support over 1000 hp.

If you don't care about running a fuel cell just run 1 electric pump and be done.

price....triple pump systems are 1400+

Have you priced out a belt drive setup?

The pump and universal drive system alone is $700-$1000, not to mention
fuel cell/surge tank, single pusher or primer pump, lines/fittings/fuel pressure regulator, brackets and drive system fabbing to find a place to put it etc. I really dont see any savings here If cost is truely your reason for it.

If you want to avoid the triple hat but retain the stock fuel tank, what about this:

http://aeromotiveinc.com/2012/02/new-05-09-mustang-stealth-systems/

Capable of supporting 1400 hp with EFI and forced induction. You may not know about it as they just released it a month ago.

I've only heard about one application with this setup and they were having major issues keeping the pump cool in the tank, increased temp was causing alot of flow loss vice the a1000 in an external setup.

Was that recent? On the website it said this new part number was just released Feb 29th 2012?

Maybe the problem you list above was the reason for the new part #'s?
