I never heard this before. Scattershield, yes. Internals, no.
I kid you not! The NHRA has speed and time points listed in the rule book where SFI ratings are required. Clutch, flywheel, bell house/skater shield are all listed in there own right.

How could tech inspection tell what clutch you have? lol

Actually, it appears $270 is the regular price! The open box is only $60, but missing the disc.
You got to be careful with A M open box stuff. The vast majority is worthless. Should be thrown in dumpster. I wonder how many poor suckers have bought this junk without reading the fine print.

The McLeod RST and RXT clutches are not SFI certified for drag racing. Think about that if you intend to visit a drag strip.
EDIT: McLeod have confirmed that part # 6918-07 is SFI certified.

You are right, my flywheel is engraved with the SFI certification but the pressure plate is not.

My car does fall under the NHRA rule for 2008+ cars as I run DOT tires and the car still has all the factory safety equipment so not a big deal. The NHRA sent out an amendment in 2018 to clarify what they consider to be an unaltered car and Mission Raceway recognizes it that way, even though I have a 6 point roll bar and a harness. The head tech inspector ruled that adding extra safety equipment doesn't disqualify the car from this rule.

My exedy Mach 500 and lightened steel flywheel had the SFI tags, That clutch was a great piece, I'd definitely recommend it. I pulled it out when I upgraded to a TR6060 and the clutch did not show any glazing from heat, it definitely did not look like it had close to 100 track passes on it.

If your car is quick enough to require an SFI certified clutch you probably won’t be bullshiting the tech guy. If they even ask. They do have the authority to make you prove compliance with any applicable rule.

While you guys are on the subject, I was thinking of replacing my clutch too. Is there a way to tell whether I have a 8 or 10 spline input without pulling the trans? 08 GT 5speed 4.6

Sorry for being such a newb. Haven't gotten any experience with this model yet. 60s models, no problem. Looking at clutches they always ask how many spines . 103k so was wanting to replace clutch and flywheel at same time. Thanks for the info guys.

I have been back and forth with McLeod by email today and the RXT clutch is SFI Approved.

Call them if you have any questions.
Amazing ain’t it. A few months ago when I spoke with McLeod about my clutch failure they told me the RST and RXT were not certified for drag racing. After reading your post I emailed them and asked again and they responded that the RXT is indeed SFI certified. They offered to send me a card stating so if I provided proof of purchase.

I wouldn't have bought one if it hadn't been SFI certified so that is why it surprised me.
