Ok so im really confused about how effective gears are. Ok so at first all i had was a JLT CAI and an SCT tuner with a BBR tune and nitto nt555r drag radials and i ran a best of 13.09 at 105 mph. My car is a 5 speed manual with 3.55 gears. This was pretty consistant i always was getting 13.0-13.1s at 105 mph with a 1.9 60'. So i added underdrive pullies , LCA , and anti-squat brackets, and ran the same time, 13.0 @ 106 mph with a 1.9 60'. This was very consistent. I attribute the 1 mph gain to the UDP's.Oh and i forgot to mention i was launching at 4k - 4.5K. So next i get 4.10 gears because i hear about how well these gears work on the track and what not, as well as a set of MT ET streets on the stock 17 in rims to get traction. So ive been heading to the track a couple times and not once was i able to break 12's. Same exact time! 13.0 , 13.0, 13.0 @106 mph. Only difference that i can see that the ET streets and 4.10 gears added was that my sixty foot dropped to 1.7-1.8. My mph and ET stayed the same. These runs i was launching at 5K - 5.5K. So what the hell is going on. Im pissed cause i just spent all that money on gears for nothing. I lost top end and didn't gain any acceleration as far as 1/4 times. What is happening? Im launching even harder at 5.5K and still can't get any better times than when i only had an intake and tune. I feel like i should have left my 3.55's in, I would atleast have more top end and better MPG.

i wish i would have left my 3.55's in. gears dont change trap speed. your et should have at lead dropped a little bit with them. but when u already start with 3.55's and have VCT to keep a flat powerband, gears become much less useful.

I was really unsure about going 4.10's but after all that i heard on the forums and how the mechanic told me to forget about anything else but 4.10's i gave in and went 4.10s. Now i regret it because i have no better acceleration and a lot lower top speed. Im like really pissed because i could of just used that money elsewhere. But what do you mean the VCT. Is there actually something that tuners do to a tune that accomadates 4.10's better, power wise, other than the speedometer changes?

What was the weather like on the times you went w/o gears and the times you went with the gears? any headwind? DA? humidity?

Are you hooking with 5.5k launches on DR's? You should see your E/T come down with your 60' times. I dropped .3 switching from 3.55's to 4.10's, and I'm running a 26.7" tall street tire doing it. Can't wait for my MT slicks. No more 2 second 60'.

Are there any differences in the 1/8th time and mph? I know here in the Houston area that it can be a heartbreaker when comparing pb's from the winter and running in our 90+ degree summers after completing mods haha

I have to agree with everyone that mentioned weather. I found out right quick when I started going to the track how much it affects your times. I installed my supercharger in January and went with a 6lb pulley. On a 65 degree clear dry evening in March, I ran a 7.78 at almost 94mph. That was on Nitto 555 "normal" street tires. On that pass I slipped the clutch and rolled to a 1.89 60'. I still spun halfway through second. From that experience, I knew my car was capable of sub 7.50s. A few weeks ago I went back to the track well armed for a second round. This time with a smaller blower pulley, a new tune, and a set of drag radials. I was excited and expecting an easy 7.50. Well it was 85 degrees and the humidity was very high. With the drag radials I rolled a 1.81 60', spun through second gear, and ran a best of 7.61 at 93mph. I trapped a mph less with more boost! WTF!! My other passes were worse, I couldn't get any traction, the track was hot and slick and my car was trapping slower. My worst of three passes was an 8.40. On that pass I got sideways in 3rd gear! I was pissed and dissapointed to say the least. I am not a weekend drag racer that enjoys beating on my car, I was just wanting that sub 7.50 time slip. That was my goal. Well, I am not going to waste my time going back until this fall when the weather conditions are favorable for a good pass. I know weather can affect times at least 3 or 4 tenths, maybe more. I have discussed this with several other friends that race their Mustangs at the track, some with FI and some with not. They all experience this same thing so don't sweat it if you are not where you expected to be. I don't know where you live, but here in South Carolina, it will not be favorable for me to return for that pass I'm after until October. I am not going to worry about it until then.

OP, I promise you the gears made an improvement, its just the heat that is killing your times. It was probably still cool when you were running your good times, and had warmed up considerably when you had run your last times. Also to make a really good run, let your car cool off at least an hour. and try to pick a time when you can breeze thru the staging lanes. If you can't move through the staging lanes fairly quick, o the start and move and kill the motor. THe cooler you motor, the better hit you will make.

Well yea the weather when i ran with just the CAI and tune was in the winter so it was cold and now its hot but i expected atleast a slight improvement. But i guess im just gonna have to wait for some good weather to come along to really see how the 4.10 gears make an improvement.

you need to be comparing mods and time slips with the same conditions.

that means the same weather, same lane, same(ish) track conditions. right now you are comparing your track experiences in essentially an Apples to Oranges situation

I'm with the other guys. I think you'll absolutely love the mods later on when things are cooler like when you just ran with a CAI+Tune. You should see a huge improvement.

i think you guys just got bad gear installs. i had a bad gear install once and i lost time. once i got a good gear install i picked 3 tenths and 3 mph over 3.31s.

^^^^ you cant fight weather conditions

OP did you make any runs last summer, if you had then you would have something to compare to. IF not, with your mods, you were probably running upper 8's in the 1/8 mile. Now you will probably be running 8.50's in the heat or a tad slower, when it cools off you will be seeing high 8.30's to low 8.40's. hang in there, you will see the improvements when the weather cools some.
