How many miles before a tune is safe to be done??

well, the way I break in is a couple heat cycles then change oil. then a couple wot pulls to 4k under load in 3rd gear then increase the wot pulls in 1000 rpm increments all under load. after I reach target rpm then i hard decel immediately after each wot pull

Rings break in quick, never any issues doing them that way. Will run a little warm initially but that is a good sign. On wot pulls I am sure to do hard decel to blow out chips etc from the rings cutting in..

I tune right after that. Whole cycle takes a day minus any fine tuning of course.. And I run the piss out of it lol.. I break it in like I intend to drive it

ZERO OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS...ZERO BREAK-IN PROBLEMS

GOT PROBLEMS!! NEED ADVICE PLEASE

ok so been driving the mustang got a hair over 100 miles on her now..

spuratically the car when moving from a stop "underload" it will sound like a diesel and barely run and then all of a sudden go away. sounds like its coming from the passenger side again. and other times when i come to a stop the car fill fall on its sleep and sound like a diesel again and barely run.

today i stop by the PO box drop off and a puff of smoke came from the hood and sounds like a damn diesel loud barely move under its own power... so i costed off to the side. turned it off. looked under the car and under the hood all was good.

started back up and purred like a kitten.

got to work about 10 miles away and it did it again and could hardly get it into a parking spot on flat ground.

turned it off and started it again and purred like a kitten then went to diesel mode right away and finally a CEL came up.
i dont have my scanner but ill check when i get home..
FML

my engine builder says it sounds like the cam phaser?
how hard is it to replace that?
dont i need a new torque to yield bolt or does ARP make one?

DAMN IT!

thanks for anyone help

Sounds like a cam phaser. Check with Freedom Racing for a good price on individual phasers. Yes, you will need a new bolt as well as a wedge tool for the timing chain. Once you get the valve cover off it's about a 10 minute job.

ughh.. yeah sounds typical of a phaser or vct solenoid. I would pop the oil cap off and let it run to see if you can hear anything.

What have you done with the vct? Locked, limiters or what? I a have seen plenty of vct solenoids fail. Those are simple to replace and pretty cheap.

What codes it throw?

Yes the solenoid is fucked. They are cheap and I would replace them both with genuine Ford parts. They are $42 ea and you should remove the valve covers but don't "have to"

Think p0340 is the passenger side. You may also get a p0000
