Crank no start only when hot: fuel related?

Trying to keep this updated. Issues persist, starts and runs great after it’s sat a day. If I leave it for an hour or less it’s questionable and embarrassing. Most recently it shuttered and cranked for 5-6 seconds and fired off, and hesitated on idle.

Note: I did have those two stuck rich codes. Both banks. Just once, cleared and gone for now.

I’m back on Leaky Injectors. Is there any way to tell if I have them? My test plan: run car, shut it off hot. Wait half hour or so. Unplug every injector to remove power and ensure the solenoids don’t let any fuel in that’s in the rail. Then try and crank. IF it’s leaking, I would think some of that raw fuel in the cylinders would sputter and try and start. If nothing, then injectors are holding tight. What do we think?

Found a cat on eBay selling a set of take off injectors for $75. Was gonna roll the dice…

FIXED. It was leaky freaking injectors. Tossed em in and it starts at any temp after any amount of driving. Freaking finally.

I did also replace the evap line and blew out the canister (unrelated) but will fill up the tank and see if THAT issue is fixed.

Im having a similar issue and have a question. I just bought this car less than a week ago. upgrading from my 4.0, so pretty familiar with the s197s. Just not this specific car yet. Its fully bult NA and as youd expect gas mileage is low , but i feel it shouldn't be THAT low (8-10mpg city). And on top of that the car has a pretty strong and persistent scent of fuel when running, even when im in the car i can smell it. So i believe its also running rich. So my question to you is did you also notice a drop in mpg and was the car also running rich? im trying to locate the problem and dont really know where to start since i just got the car.

When you say "built", what tune is on it? Did it come with the handheld tuner and files?

No it didn’t sadly, it was an older gentleman who had it built and he had it dyno tuned. The second owner added forged internals, injectors and coils and also had it dyno tuned. And neither of them provided me with a dyno sheet or any information on the tuning

Update: just had it almost stall out on me, was just cruising and then I take a turn onto a street and the car starts trying to stall out and fuel pressure dropped to 20 maybe even 15. Pulled into a gas station shut the car off and opened the hood to let it cool off. After a few minutes it was fine, then the check engine light came on so maybe now I can get a code reader and narrow it down. The car naturally runs hotter than my other s197. It stays steady at about 180° the temp gauge sits at about 3/4. Idk if it’s vapor locking or what the deal is

I remember an issue back in the day that after cruising at a constant speed for a period of time, some folks were having a problem with fuel delivery. It had something to do with the fuel pick up in the tank. I can't remember what the specific issue was but I remember sending my stock pump to a guy in Canada to help him with his issue. I think it had something to do with the sock filter on the pick up tube and cavitation causing low fuel pressure and stumbling motors. The symptoms sound similar to your issue. Might be worth looking into. The pump is kinda a pain in the ass to remove and examine though.

Thanks for the help. I did pull out the pump and actually look at the sock filter before I got it figured out. It ended up being the fuel rail pressure sensor, my fuel gauge was all over the place right before the car started to act up even more. So I replaced that and it started up and ran perfectly. Pretty sure it’s still running a little rich, but definitely not like before.
