I swear I get better mileage with the race tune vs the torque tune...could it be that to increase the torque in the sub 3500 part of the rev range, the A/F ration is richer, therefore making it a less efficient burn?

That could conceivably translate into lower mpg, especially if I stay in that part of the rev range 80% of the commute to/from work...

Can anyone confirm this?

Mee too! And all this time I was alone in this.....

94tbird: Thaniks, I realize Doug's a supporting vendor; I'm a fan of both his customer service and his product (started a thread on it at the "other" site), that's why I'm asking the question in an open forum instead of simply calling him up...so that everyone else gets the bennie of the response... :D

I was going to suggest to Doug that he call the 93 Torque tune "BERTHA", cause of the huge girth of the torque up to 4000 rpm!

I LOVE IT!! Pulls like nuts, and smoother than the Race tune.....it took a while, but I've learned to recognize the subtle differences in the tunes' characteristics..man I thank my wife every day for letting me get this car instead of insisting on something "practical"!

If we could get enough people to commit I am sure we could get him up here. Heck I wouldn't mind the throttle response of his race tune in my car.

Well... he does kinda sorta have his own forum here. Perhaps start a "suggestion" thread in the bama forum and see what happens.

LOL from what I understand Ron, you still need to get your car out of the body shop before you can put the new engine in it and tune it  then again, I can only get away with the smack talk while your car is down because it'll probably kick mine's ass once it is all together.

Well the block is sitting at PMP right now, but if your willing to build it I am willing to have it sent to you. We haven't done anything yet but I did send them the money to have VT engines build it, however, I am pretty sure that nothing has been sent to VT yet sooo, if you are willing to build it, I can just sent Josh the $ to have it sent back to you. In fact why don't I just send you a PM.

Hell no your not getting my engine. He'll be done with yours before he would start mine anyway, and if he is a willing to build it, I think I am a willing to pay for it!

Doug returned my call: says most of the torque is due to timing settings, but there is a little more F in the A/F ratio as well. I'm gonna switch back to the 93Tq tune....I'm almost sure the sound is different..or am I imagening things?

Actually, if most of the change in the tune is due to timing....and therefore the timing of the combustion relative to the exhaust valve opening....couldn't it concievably have an effect on the exhaust tone?
