I agree with you about people referring to peak numbers being dumb. Thats not was I suggesting to the OP. I was suggesting that if he really wants to see where he stands he should get a baseline, do his mods, then redyno. Yea the peak numbers might not change, but if he brings up the low end at least he knows what the mod did. I'm not saying for him to go and brag about how much/little his mods did, I'm saying that if he's doing a build, he should definitely get a baseline and see whether his modification helped in the area he's looking for. If he just wants numbers, get a huge turbo. But I don't think thats what he's looking for.

And with that same mentality, even the track is a terrible comparison. If you've run at more than one track, than you know how different cars will react to each track. Again, be consistent. Run the same track and see how you improve. Some tracks are way more forgiving than others. You can'd dispute that.

Do both. Run on a dyno and track, do your mods, repeat. If you're times don't decrease and if you don't gain a little power somewhere in your curve, you might be doing something wrong ;)

Edit: I'm trying to fight with you Don, I'm just suggesting that track times aren't the only measure of the car in an absolute sense. For some of us, the nearest track is over 2 hours away. The dyno is a good way to see how our progression is going so that when we do make trip to the track, we have a idea of what we would like to see and should at best expect. Don't wanna set the bar too high! Plus we have a dyno right around the corner

Unless one is truly analyzing the area under the curves, then a dyno sheet is just a penis size comparison contest. And no matter how big your penis is, if you never use it, who cares. Get out and race dammit! :thumb:

Now thats sig material right there..

I'm not going to disagree that there are variations between tracks (as well as at a single track on different days)... that's a given. But my big question is, what is the purpose of a dyno queen? If you don't race, why spend all the money trying to make horsepower? That's the part I'll never quite understand. Some guys want some 600hp street car, but fail to realize it's pretty useless on the street.

If I didn't race and was always in search of that next 1/10 second, I sure as hell wouldn't have dropped 10s of thousands of dollars into my car. To me, a dyno is a tuning tool, and that's it. I don't even care what the numbers are, and I don't care about any incremental gains on it either. As long as the car goes quicker, then I'm happy.

We can go round and round on this all day long, but we'll never change each others minds. So we'll just have to agree to disagree.

ha, I agree to both statements. Something like a 700HP+ Supra that can run well at the track is silly....

But if you had the money and time, can you honestly say you would want both: a 10 to 9 second mustang and an 800HP Dyno Queen in your garage? I know I would!

It would only be a dyno queen for as many days as it took for the track to be open...

Oklahoma: Not terrible
I once made the horrible mistake of letting someone talk me into having the car dynoed for the hell of it. Once I actually knew the number, I couldn't get my mind off it and started modding for that instead of for myself. I've since came off that awful high and got my head on straight again. Just getting a big number to say that you have a big number is pretty damn worthless at the end of the day.

You can have the biggest package in the world, but it won't be worth shit if you can't perform when the lights are on. Take that how you want to take it, lol.

Amen^^...I think thats happened to alot of us. I used to be so focused on dyno numbers it absorbed the fun sometimes. There is no better feeling than going to the track and seeing an improved number from the last time out, even if some of it is driver mod. Improved driver mod is the cheapest modification out there, just $30 or so bucks for entry and some petro:boobies:

I can honestly say no, I wouldn't. A dyno queen really does nothing for me. Kind of a like a show car... I have no use for either one.

If I had the money to build two cars, the second would be another race car... for the Mrs!

Here is another one (NWS language)

Bragging about dyno numbers is like bragging about having a big cock but never getting any pussy

Wow, easy guys. You guys are all getting up arms with me. I just posted that b/c some on our local forum had just posted it and we happened to be talking about dyno queens in this thread. Thats all. Everyone calm down. I know there's plenty of GT500 that can do that, a local guy has one that makes 793WHP and runs pretty damn good at the track(for the life of me I cannot find his last track runs).
