bump ^. I am having heating issues as well. 170f while WOT 4th gear pull. Only thing I haven't upgraded too is a bigger res. Maybe a trunk mounted Chiseled Performance tank?

I actually took my tank out just because I was fed up dealing with ice. I'm not going to sell it since I think it will help when I can afford a good heat exchanger, but without that the fluid gets heat soaked in the tank and it ends up doing more harm than good if I don't use ice.

If you don't mind putting ice in it then it works awesome, but with just fluid it was just adding extra weight to my car.

Do you think I will be ok with my afco and the larger tank in the trunk? I just ordered a 12x12x9 tank with 30gpm pump mounted in the tank. Looks like getting res out of engine compartment would help lower temps too.

what pump? Rule1500? Tell them you want the Rule 2000, the 1500 is pretty slow when you take into account the amount of hoses and liquid it pushes against.

you may have a different issue then james. I never see above 120 cruising around on the street, sans ice obviously. no issues with heat soak either.

I can't complain at all about my chiseled tank. I made the wrong choice with the size going in the wheel well which limited the size rule pump that could go in it. My cruising IAT's were not bad at most getting to the 120's..it was just at the track where I want to keep the temps below 130 so it doesn't pull any timing and the only way I could do that is with ice. I want to see if i can manage that with a killer heat exchanger set-up and a fairly small water tank possibly mounted in the passenger compartment or something.

I'm thinking of possibly 2 small race radiators with fittings....possibly one pre-heat exchanger and one post before the fluid goes back to the reservoir. No time or money to do that now so I'm just relying on the meth injection which is working pretty good. I just need to get a progressive controller for the pump and figure out the best meth/water mix.

I ran 2 back to back runs, no ice in the tank and only saw 132 by the end of the second run.

The tank in the trunk is weight, but its in the rear, will only help traction.

With Icei ran 2 back to back runs, bypassing the heat exchanger, and i hit 111, and 114 respectively.

James, there are three tanks like yours in cars down here that I have tuned and all run whipples, two had problems with the Rule pump, one of them, the internal hose that goes from the pump to the external connection broke.

The thing is that here, the ice do not last more than one pass, you send the car out with 1.5-2 bags of ice and it comes back with warm water.

I kid with the guys as when are they going to finally buy the ice truck for the track events. The thing is that we get 80s on 100F weather with ice and tank->IC->HE config, and the car loves that.

Am I wrong or the whipple's (fluidyne) HE looks to be better than the E-brock?

by gonig from the Tank to the intercooler, through the heat exchanger and back to the tank you are actually wasting the ice faster. I ran tests with temp sensors and the water coming out of the intercooler is STILL colder than ambient temp. so if your taking that water and pushing it through the heat exchanger, your actually warming the fluid to ambient. your gaining heat.

I bypassed my heat exchanger completely for the track. Tank to intercooler to tank. With only 2 bags of ice on a 80 degree day, i can make 2 passes down the track and i was hitting 111 for the first pass and 114 for the second pass. no waiting in pits or staging lanes, true back to back passes.

The chiseled performance tanks run a very cheap connection from the Rule pump to the outlet of the tank and it is very prone to breaking, especially with ice. a small tear will ultimately kill your flow. My tank has a rubber heater hose for the output. its tough and theres no ice that can break it.

I don't plan on running with ice in my tank so I should be ok with the tank I orded. I did get the Rule 2000 pump. I don't want to set the record for the coolest temps I just don't want to run over 150 on a 80 degree day. I have been data logging with Lito, and on a almost dark evening temps close to 70. Towards the end of my 4th gear pull I hit 170degrees intake. WTF. Thats crazy.

Rub it in why don't you. LOL you worked hard enough for it. I am glad you figured it out. But jokes aside I should be ok shouldn't I? Hell that has to help me some when I get my tank in won't it?

Id imagine you are. rule 2000 is a 55gpm pump if i recall correctly, not 30

Just to let you know...tonight at the track my IAT's were in the 120's by the end of the run with the stock cooling set-up from the e-force with the meth. This was with them starting in the upper 130's after the burnout also.

I just started spinning my eforce hard.. I have a 8 Gallon insalated trunk tank it has a 55GPM pump in it. i use ice at the track but on street in warmer weather I am seeing 125 - 130 degrees under normal driving conditions I am still running stock edelbrock he & pump. I am considering doing the AFCO with dual fans to help with street driving but I would like to bypass the HE for ICE at track and would like to plumb in a valve with a Y or splitter? to make it simple to switch between the two.
94tbird sounds like you may have allready done something like this? i will see if i can find a post I want my IAT's as low as i can get them..

looking closer at my pump in my tank its a rule 500 GPH not nearly a 55GPM pump more like 8 GPM. I am curious what the stock bosch pump up front at heat exchanger GPH / GPM rating is?
I am looking to upgrade my trunk tank pump and my pump at exchanger.
I am thinking if my pump at the tank in trunk is not up to par with the stock edelbrock bosch pump at heat exchanger then I could be giving up some flow effeciancy?
or if rear pumps more then the front pump would be a restriction?
thanks for any feedback or knowlege on the subject!
:)
